Even when they literally ask for it... I don't think that this forum has got much life left in it, to be honest. But I've seen other sites turn around from low points like this. It does actually take a commitment to implement the necessary changes though and I haven't seen that from GOG.

I'm not sure they have that commitment. This is more or less exactly what I was worried about when the topic of moderation came up many moons ago. It doesn't take long for a forum to go from great to shit. I'm just surprised that it's taken this long.

Galaxy is what they care about right now and they seem to have overextended themselves a bit here. Not having somebody in the forum more or less constantly was eventually going to come back to bite them. I think it took like 12 hours for them to notice GR's smut hut when that was there, and in those days folks were pretty good about self-moderating.

Oh yeah, Gamerager. If nothing else he certainly kept these forums interesting. Galaxy was always going to act as a huge human resource hog during its early development. Things should ease off a bit in the months to come. But who knows what will be left of the forums when their attention returns to it?

Really, those are some of the goofiest "let's stir shit up on the internet" meltdowns I've seen.
You have to admit though, it wasn't a ragequit and it didn't quite stir things up as much as killing Cecil the lion. It may be a meltdown, but more like a jolly rancher that sat on the dashboard instead of three-mile island.

I'd say it's full of life ( and yes, that also includes the occasional fight and other negative aspects, which is all a part of well... life ).

But seriously, topics such as misogynism, racism, political debates etc. quickly turn into shitstorms at just about any public discussion forum. We're doing fine around here, really.

I've been thinking of posting something saying: Wake up, we in the forum are a minority! Or something of the sort.

I think there are ways to keep the forum good, but they'd involve us taking over development pro bono, coordinating it with GOG or something. We'd have to accept we're far from a significant part of the revenue, and take matters in our own hands basically.

At least I think there are technological ways to increase transparency and empwer the self moderation that used to be more common.
