Leroux: How would Germans be able to clarify, when they don't see the problem with it? ;) Frankly, I wouldn't even know what German humor is supossed to be. Even in Germany, some attempts at humor are funny and others are not, some people laugh about this stuff, others about that stuff. I guess it would take a foreigner to explain to Germans what their typical common humor is.

Treasure: Sorry for not seeing your reply earlier, but not all my reply notifications work today... Anyways, better late than never I guess... What I meant by "German" humour is a kind of humour that is typically German, and doesn't exist in other countries or if it does exist it isn't as prevalent. What usually comes to my mind when thinking of German humour is thus a humour similar to the British black one, or jokes based on wordplay, untranslatable thus to other languages (and this although other languages have wordplay jokes too). In case that is of any comfort to you, although I can usually (but not always) detect irony and veiled insults as being joking, I don't like this kind of humour, and personally whenever I use irony, I use it when I'm annoyed by something, that is not in humour, but in annoyance/anger...
like Leroux i am a bit puzzled that there is (or supposed to be) a specific kind of humour that is unique to Germany.
I'll have to google that :p

obviously there is all kinds of humour that is hard to grasp for foreigner as it is based on making fun of specific local customs, dialects etc. And just the casual misuse of the appropriate grammer can be quite funny as well.
but I would think that's not something that only exists in Germany.
Not in but thank you!

What I liked most about Germany as a kid was that as soon as we crossed the border by car, it was vrooom schnell schnell no more Swiss tempo limits and that felt rather exciting even if we only went up to max 140 km/h, never more. I still remember sports cars whizzing past us at speeds one could only guess.

What I appreciate most nowadays is the complete and utter convenience of knowing their language fully, that makes traveling so much easier. Even if someone has a fairly rustic strange accent, I can still understand them as Swiss German is even more strangely rustic.
I don't try to speak perfect Hochdeutsch by disguising my Swiss accent, on the contrary it's quite the advantage because if people can instantly detect that you're Swiss, you're generally well received. In their eyes, we are that cute and neat little neighbour country and aren't seen as a threat to them in any way. If the German railways weren't so expensive (less so than the Swiss railways but the distances are naturally much longer and distance costs money), I'd be traveling around Germany more because there is quite a lot that I want to see, mainly castles and stuff. I also like that the food is drastically cheaper than in Switzerland even if you eat at a restaurant, literally twice as affordable.

Doc0075: Seeing how the Doom and Quake games are unavailable to buy for our German Goglodytes
Oh, btw, I didn't really look into it before, but a member from the German forum pointed out that the Doom games and the first Quake are available to German customers here on GOG, only Quake 2+3 and the Wolfenstein games are unavailable. So I guess it would be fair to give users from other countries the same chances at winning Doom or Quake 1.
I'm in for Return to Castle Wolfenstein, and +1 for your generosity.

What I really like about my country is the language, it's very rich and beautiful. Some say it's complicated to learn, but I like it's complexity. But I also like other languages like english, italian, spanish. When you visit bigger cities like Berlin or cologne you hear a lot of different languages from all the tourists and immigrants, and I love this diversity.
Not in for obvious reasons :P

Thank you & +1! :)
Thank you for your commitment against censorship!

Not in and viel Glück an alle Teilnehmer!
