Lifthrasil: Independently of that merger, the sun will run out of fuel, enter red giant state (in about 5 billion years) and finally explode.
Nitpick: it is currently theorized/calculated/etc that the sun will actually become a red giant. Of course, the life currently on the planet then (if any) is screwed either way**, so it's mainly an academic distinction.
(**and even before that, after about 1 billion years the changes in the sun will very likely make the surface unlivable)

amok: we are not talking about all people here, this is a fallacy. I could meet someone like my mother on the street, and yes she would not know how to build a PC, but then again - my motther is also not a steam user.
As said, we have very differnt perception of the people we have meet that use steam.
Perception or no, there is still an objective truth out there amidst all the data points....and from the tech support "horror stories" i've read/seen, what people have said online on various sites, general trends(like the "dumbing down" of various HW/SW), etc.....it is clear to see that the more likely scenario is that a good number are "less knowledgeable" when it comes to tech these days.
Of course, this is mainly due to people being wanting/liking things quick and easy....with a bit of effort, people could likely learn and become more capable when it comes to such things, but most like simplicity and convenience(so good luck with that).
