And the worst part is, somehow this ' event ' removed the option of starting off line!

Only some games will start of course ( mentioned on the drm free steam game list )

Imagine this ' status ' will remain for weeks ? Would valve release a way to enable playing your games without the steam launcher ?
Ah, is it happening again? Steam servers being unavailable and locking me out of pure singleplayer games despite being in permanent offline mode was what brought me to GOG in the first place. Good luck to steam users, may you have access to your games again in a few minutes. Until they fix their issues you can play one of your GOG games, at least.
If one day Steam goes out of bussiness I'm wondering what will happen.
Seems to work fine on my end. Can switch between offline and online, store works, three games at random work, disconnect and sign in works. Maybe it's a regional thing?

Oh, it will happen. But at that point it won't matter anyway.

General outrage for a couple of weeks.

After that, for most steam users, back to the next "pretend you own it" rental service probably.

Or maybe it would open the door for an honest rental as service provider to take over like Netflix, but for games. It would be a step up from what Steam is offering. I might even pay for that if the price/selection is right. Then again, I have enough games to last me a lifetime.

Everything is online now. Movies, videogames, whatever. Sonner or later to turn on your PC you will be able only if your computer is online.

How is that "a first"...?

By their practicies with games removed from the store, I hope they would make an offline steam version whose let you download and keep all your games offline and make backups of them to be playable only through this offline steam program or something like it.

But OH WELL, this would be to give Hope way too much room in this case.

Every author has an option for his/her creation to be online only, but there are examples which are NOT.
That's why I'm interested ONLY in things that can be used offline and I support only them.
Someone hopefully will make a fake authorisation server by then or more likely soon after

Probably true. Every time that something seems to disappear or change forever there's always someone fixing it.

I'm also interested in that in everything.

I have the Amazon Prime Video service but i still prefer watching DVDs at home.

I suspect that is highly contingent on the movie.

Personally, I'm happy to watch 90%-95% of the stuff on Netflix, as I'll watch it only once, but I want to own the things I plan to watch again, because they might not be available forever.

I agree with this.

Typical fallacy usually indicating youngsters: this is the first time I've experienced this, therefore its clearly an unprecedented event in the annals of history.
