bansama: I sure hope you were joking with that statement. Japanese publishers on GOG!? Hah! Seriously, even if the lack of DRM wasn't an issue; the fact that GOG sell to Japan *is* an issue.

So GOG would be left with a choice: Tell 2 million plus potential customers in Japan to **** off by introducing permanent regional restrictions which are not dictated by legal requirements. Or, retain 2 million plus potential customers in Japan and let the publishers know that they too shouldn't be turning their noses up at a growing market.
Didn't knew the territorial issue is spread beyond anime&manga, don't you have steam? How's that different - you can get the games from the original owner or from the reseller, i.e. steam?

Azhdar: It's almost impossible, but GOG can convince Konami to release Castlevania: Lords of Shadow here. Compare Steam Spy data of LoS series with Metal Gear games. It seems LoS sale rate is very low. GOG release can be profitable for Konami.
When was the last time konami showed any genuine interest in being profitable? :p

I think they're making plenty of money off their gambling machines and wanted to focus on that.

While completely throwing away so much guaranteed bank (and good will) in the process...

Konami makes no sense.

I pray to see Konami and Capcom titles on GOG. We need a miracle to bring big Japanese companies to GOG. :)

Naturally Steam exists in Japan. That's how we know there's a good 2 million (and rising) PC gamers in Japan. However, as far as most of the Japanese publishers are concerned... we can't buy any of their games on PC, Steam or otherwise. They simply don't want money from PC users. Bandai Namco are happy to publisher on XB1 in Japan, despite the system only having 60,000 users maximum. But 2 million + PC users? Nope. Don't want their money.

Basically the same story for SEGA and Idea Factory. They refuse to believe that Japan has a PC gaming market. Konami, Capcom, and Square Enix all offer a limited selection of games (often at twice the price, several months after everyone else, and with features missing).

timppu: Also I'd point out that while GOG "has" EA or Activision, it doesn't seem like they are publishing much more on GOG anymore. So they are more like hibernated. Ubisoft is almost the same, it seems.
A few weeks ago I would have agreed with you, but (somebody may have already pointed this out) SCPM found evidence that Activision at least will likely be bringing more games here in the future, including Bloodlines. (Hopefully SWAT 4 and Emperor Middle Kingdom will be included too.) And like somebody else said, Ubisoft recently brought some new releases last year and this one - Albion, Archemidian Dynasty, the Anno games, and more.

I'm also still not 100% ruling out that "Its True or Not" list, which included some EA games (despite the obvious issues with some of the stuff mentioned). Admittedly I am surprised EA hasn't just released their own DOSBox'd versions of Maxis classics on Origin (like a "Maxis Collection"), but I guess EA's been happy enough with the sales here and GOG's work.

Somebody pointed this out to me and it's looking like it's true: GOG doesn't approach big publishers unless GOG's extremely sure GOG's prepared for the negotiating table, with lots of games.

Yes, the memory is coming back now. Thanks for the reminder. There's a few of us older members who have trouble remembering things.

Sometimes I feel that certain topics have been discussed before, then shrug it off due to life's many endless hours of repetition that likes to turn the human brain into a soft, pasty glue-like substance.
