clarry: That's a really difficult question. In part because it's difficult to find really good series, and in part because I haven't played most of them.

Instinct says Deus Ex, but in fact I've only played the first two.

Maybe System Shock, but in fact I've only played the second game.

Doom would probably be one of the strong contenders, but truth is I don't really love the stock Doom 2 maps, TNT kinda sucks.. Doom 3 is great yet not a masterpiece. I haven't played Doom 2016. I love classic Doom but mostly for the community works it spawned. Still, a damn strong contender?

Need for Speed? I've only played Underground + Underground 2. Both really really nice games. However there are many titles in the series I feel like I wouldn't like that much. Still, really solid.

Hitman is probably the one I'd consider the best in that the first two games are almost 100% solid and the little I've played of Contracts (the demo only) is also 100% solid. I'm a little hesitant though because I haven't played the newer titles.. except a bit of one, whose name I do not remember.

Then again, the first few CoD titles are pretty solid too.

The first two Max Paynes are really solid. Can't remember if I did the third.

I don't know man, I really don't. Games suck donkey.
You should play Doom 2016. It's so much better than Doom 3 and other Doom games IMO. The sequel for Doom 2016 is also coming next year which looks even more better than the 2016 one.

I probably should. But I'm not willing to sell my soul yet. And honestly I don't believe I would like it more than the classic doom community wads. The problem is the gameplay that locks you in to arenas. Like Serious Sam and Painkiller. And Shadow Warrior 2013... I was really disappointed with that aspect in SW2013.

I really like the open ended level design of the old Dooms. You go where you want to. Maybe you go into a trap, maybe you don't. The pacing isn't artificially divided into "grabbing items time" and "fighting in arena time."

arsalan12: Mine would be:

1. The Witcher.

4. Mass Effect (Not Andromeda)
Snap.

I would include Dragon Age, mostly Origins and Baldur's Gate (NOT enhanced). Can't decide on a fifth.

mqstout: Castlevania. (RIP.)
I keep hearing about possible rebirths of this series. Is there any possible truth to that?

You can always try Doom Eternal which is coming next year. I think that game has more open ended feel like previous Doom games.

Until Konami sells it to someone? No chance. Bloodstained from Kojima is coming along, and there have been great entries by others in the genre this year.

Just rumours I think.
Why only five ;)

Alphabetical order:
Baldur’s Gate (nice to be god’s child)
Championship\Footy Manager (too many matches ;)
Fallout (world after big boom)
HOMM (and here too many battles ;)
Myth (Soulblighter alone will cut the trick ;)
Fallout 1+2 only
HoM&M 1+2+3+4+5 only
Diablo all three
Broken Sword 1+2+4+5; not 3
Half Life 1+exp.x2 + 2+episodes 1+2; and hopefully 3; come on Gabe McButterPants!
For me personally:

Warcraft
Tomb Raider
Civilization
Command and Conquer
Impression games city builder series
but it hurts not including several others that come to mind : (Starcraft, Fallout, Commandos, Half-life)

Overall on the other hand, and trying to be more objective, probably:
Mario
GTA
Legend of Zelda
Warcraft
Halo

GlorFindel: Broken Sword 1+2+4+5; not 3
Just curious, why not 3?

I found it to be way better than 4.
Heroes of Might and Magic
Might and Magic
Dragon Quest
Gothic
Fallout
For me:

Deus Ex (minus 2)
Marathon
Myst (up to 4)
Witcher

.. and no. 5.. dunno bit of a tie between Baldurs Gate, Bioshock, Stalker and Dishonored. EDIT: Oh and Mass Effect.:D Hm. Probably BG.

Forza Motorsport
5 Star General Series
Great Naval Battles
Close Combat
Assassin's Creed

I deliberately left out anything with just 2 games...as a 2 game series only qualifies as a series by the barest margin of 1. So even though the Jagged Alliance games are the best games ever made, there are only 2 real games in the series.
Kane and Lynch
Bad Rats
Dead or Alive
Assassin's Creed
Hatoful Boyfriend.
