At the turn of the 42nd Millennium, war across the Old World never seems to stop. The only way to avoid being smashed by the hordes of invading armies is to join their ranks or find powerful allies. Check out these 4 great DRM-free games to see how to survive in the vast and dangerous universes of Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000.

Have the stains of virtual gore still not dried on your computer screen from playing Warhammer: Mark of Chaos - Gold Edition and Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War? Here are 4 more titles set in the rich Warhammer universe that deserve your attention.

Warhammer: Chaosbane
First, let’s travel into the Old World, where this action-adventure game takes place. In Warhammer: Chaosbane, you’ll visit a land ravaged by never-ending war and dominated by powerful magic. As the last hope of the Empire of Man, you must battle against Chaos hordes in a solo campaign or along with up to 4 friends in local or online co-op.

In this thrilling hack ‘n’ slash game you can choose a hero out of 5 character classes, all with unique sets of skills. Among them we have a fearsome soldier of the Empire, a Dwarf specialized in melee combat, a High Elf who deals ranged damage with magic, a Wood Elf who lays traps and wields a deadly bow, and a versatile Dwarf Engineer. The game gives you countless hours of enjoyment thanks to over 70 monsters you can slay and the many dungeons available to explore.

Battlefleet Gothic: Armada
While the Warhammer 40K world has received many great RTS titles, none of them have reached this epic of a scale. Battlefleet Gothic: Armada takes Games Workshop’s classic tabletop game into outer space. There, the forces of Chaos, Imperium, Eldar, and Orks fight against each other in huge battleships. Two more fleets - the Space Marines and T’au Empire - can be deployed thanks to the game’s DLCs.

Battlefleet Gothic: Armada features a grand story campaign, taking place during the 12th Black Crusade. The game offers an extensive multiplayer mode where up to 4 players can battle simultaneously. Moreover, it also enables you to manage every ship of your fleet, both during and between battles.

Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2
The sequel to Battlefleet Gothic: Armada is everything that fans could hope for. Bigger, more complex, and ambitious - it includes a stunning 12 factions from the original Warhammer 40k games. This means you can now control the forces of the Imperial Navy, Space Marines, Adeptus Mechanicus, Necrons, Chaos, Aeldari Corsairs, Aeldari Craftworld, Drukhari, the T’au Merchant and Protector Fleets, Orks, and the Tyranids.

Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2 is set during the events of the Gathering Storm and the 13th Black Crusade from the Warhammer 40k universe. The title features 3 solo campaigns (the fourth is available in the Chaos Campaign Expansion DLC) and an improved multiplayer mode.

Space Hulk: Deathwing
Now, it’s your time to become a Terminator of the Deathwing, a part of the elite Space Marine Chapter, the Dark Angels. Space Hulk: Deathwing is a massively engaging FPS based on the tabletop game from Warhammer 40,000 universe. It’s also a worthy sequel to the two classic games from 1993 and 1996.

Your main mission is to fight the ever-growing horde of the Tyranid Genestealers, within the claustrophobic confines of a Space Hulk Olethros ship. With every fight in the solo and multiplayer modes, you get stronger by gaining experience and salvaging destructive weapons and other equipment. The game has spawned 3 DLCs - Infested Mines, Knights of the Crimson Order, and Skulls for the Skull Throne - adding some hefty additional content.

Do you feel your heart racing yet? Prepare for a string of unforgettable battles with all 4 Warhammer games mentioned above. And remember, that’s only the beginning! On GOG.COM, you’ll find many more DRM-free titles set in the dark and exciting universes created by Games Workshop!
I want to see Space Marine and the two Vermintide games

LifeLover: And of course no Dawn of War 1 + DLC and Dawn of War 2 + DLC! Why? I can't understand ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, because this games was released so long time ago!!!
avatar
Swedrami: I assume the rights to the first and the second one lie with Sega as well, and Sega is well-known for their continous ignorance and unwillingness in regards to releasing DRM-free.
they let DotEmu release their old games DRM-free on DotEmu's site like a decade ago, maybe it wasn't profitable enough and now they just don't want to bother with anyone outside Steam unfortunately

Hobse: I can't get Shadow of the Horned Rat to work on my Windows 10 machine... any thoughts or advice someone could point out?

Swedrami: Check the subforum for solutions or workarounds:

Just a few of them:

"The most common issue is the game clashing with one of the background processes. People reported shutting down different processes worked for them. That would be my first step, other than trying to run with compatibility mode and maybe admin access."

"That's kinda strange. I just set the .exe's ("Launch Warhammer: Shadow of The Horned Rat") compatibility settings to:
- Compatibility mode for Win 95
ticked:
- Reduced color mode
- Run in 640x480
- Disable display scaling
- Run as administrator

And it works like a charm for me. I have Windows 10 Home, 64 bit."

"HOW TO MAKE THE GAME WORK ON WIN10:

Disable any overlays/hooks, as they make the game not work.

Disable any driver optimizations in the driverHQ(nv/ati)

Set language locale to english.
(might need to enable 98 compatability mode too)

Here is a way to check which program is causing the game to not work:

"When the game freezes, don't kill the process. Open the task manager and go to the "Details" tab. Scroll down to WHSHR.EXE, right click it and click "Analyze wait chain". A window will pop up with the culprit that's causing the game to stop. I'm on Windows 10, and I don't remember if older task managers have the same option, but this is what I did. "

cheers"
does the game have to crash right away at start or during playing ?

I installed the game, ran it and it looks like this ( windowed)

attachment: screenshot1.jpg

i made no changes , and didn't use the nvidia panel to tweak settings ... so far it runs, haven't tested it so maybe it will crash later or maybe it crash after ALT TAB , seems Win 10 doesn't like that , a number of old games were stuck after ALT TAB and the mouse pointer froze.
The reduced color mode was preset, seems Win 10 did it, cause i never set it to reduced color mode :D

Also tried Final Liberation - Warhammer® Epic 40,000 is full screen only , doesn't accept ALT TAB so it's hard to see how it behaves , did noticie that after i closed the game i noticed the GPU was at 2.6 GHZ which is a little too much for a ancient game like this :D
Game is preset for win 98se , it's weird not all games are preset , a number have to be set manually, some enabled 'ticks'cannot be ticked off and that is a pity , win 10 also have a number of setting that arent accesible... like with the jagged alliance 2 game it runs on win 10 but ALT TAB equals +++ black screen, music usally plays on mouse frozen ....

Anyway i cant really say Win 10 is that wonderful with old games , 'using it because win 7 cant run new hardware.
but i don't really like win 10. ( worst windows ever)

Does the GOG version of Warhammer: Chaosbane include the Helmet Pack and XP boost that is available on Steam?
I hadn't realized that Chaosbane was from Nacon. Is there any possibility of seeing more games from this distributor in the future? Vampire: The Masquerade Swansong, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, Steelrising, etc.
Unusual question I know, but which Gladius faction is best for damage-over-time and debuffing enemies? 'cause that's the stuff I'm into in wargames.
As something of a WH40K fan, I am very happy to see these new releases, although I miss Space Marine, too. And it would have been great if they released the old Space Hulk games from 1993 and 1996 as well. Who knows if they'll ever come here...

Doing the settings as described in that post, it's actually working now, which is awesome. One quick question... how are you running it in Windowed mode? I haven't looked to see if that's a video option yet, so maybe it's that simple... but I didn't know if there was a parameter I could set or some such.

I was getting black screens on opening it in the first place, the forcing resolution is probably what fixed it since I have multiple monitors.
Hello GOG.com!

Unfortunately, I got disappointed by these new releases and Warhammer celebration.

I really wished, you would have released either the over due "Warhammer: Dark Omen" or one of the tactics-oriented, turn-based interpretations of the Space Hulk formular, e.g. "Space Hulk" (which meanwhile is not even available anymore on the other distribution platform) or "Space Hulk - Tactics".

"Space Hulk" (Steam link, not purchaseable anymore):
Space Hulk on Steam

"Space Hulk - Tactics" (homepage):
Space Hulk - Tactics homepage

By the way, does anyone remember the community-made, turn-based Space Hulk game, which have been stripped-off all licence references as "Alien Assault" (by Teardown), but also vanished from the interwebs?

I guess, more waiting for Dark Omen and other tactical Warhammer games.

For those customers, who appreciate the new releases:
Have fun!

Kind regards,
foxgog

I've just gotten my pay and you want me to go broke already?
I beg of you, bring Blood Bowl here as well.
i belief the blood bowl dvd stems from a time that online activation was not required by every game... not sure if it will work out of the box though, with march of chaos still fresh in mind

It might have something to do with them removing alternative MP options in favor of Steam. They'd need to add support for Galaxy or offer the old versions with direct connect and LAN.

You have to use Resource Monitor to do that on Win. 7. I believe Vista is the same but I'd have to double check. The GOG version won't run on XP but the original does.

At anyone that's played them: How is Spacehulk DW multiplayer and can the campaign be played co-op? I was also wondering how BFG: A2 is compared to the first?

GOG.com: Space Hulk: Deathwing
It's from Streum On Studio
As I said in the neighboring topic, GOG, how about their old game - E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy? ( https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/eye_divine_cybermancy )
It was self-published on Steam (no any publisher involved). You just need to persuade Studio.
This game was weird and surrealistic, but interesting.
