TentacleMayor: Someone unironically likes this game? To me, Kingpin is a prime example of mid-late 90s games aging horribly, in this case not only the obvious presentation aspect but also the writing and tone. It just tries so much to be hardcore and gritty with everyone being a roided-up foulmouthed murderous criminal drawn by Rob Liefeld and written by Frank Miller. Just... no thanks. That can stay in the 90s.
Dude, you are harsher on this game than I am! I just said it was mediocre for its time. But as I remember from watching gggmanlives review, game was also, well, let just subpar in its shooting mechanics as well, wasn't it?
I don't mind the fixing of old games to run perfect on modern system with updated res and stuff. Wish to see more games have this done over time.

Anyone who unironically uses the phrase "this game aged horribly" does not deserve to have an opinion on video games.

And why's that? You can look at games in the context of their time, but a game can absolutely become less entertaining to a modern audience. A game that was revolutionary 20 years ago can be near-unplayable now due to archaic design that's been weeded out over 2 decades of iterative improvements in game design, not to mention removal of hardware limitations. Not that every trend in gaming is good, of course, but imo the older the hardware and games, the more likely they are to be deeply flawed by modern sensibilities. And I'm not some tween either, I was retro gaming in the 90s. IMO, the more a game tries to be ''cutting-edge'' and modern, the more likely it is to age about as well as milk.

The game is still exactly the same as it was when it was released, the only thing that has changed is you. It's not my problem if you're unable to objectively look at games.

So the only ones allowed to comment on the quality of games are people who have never seen a game before, thus having no expectations or standards?

No, but it seems you're unable to look at a game and judge it's quality without being influenced by external factors such as what the technology of the time allowed graphics wise.

Your entire argument against this game is basically "culture has changed since the late 90's, so therefore this game is culturally incompatible with the current era, therefore it's bad".

It's like looking at Doom and judging it as bad because of pixellated graphics, completely unable to judge the quality of the artwork within the context of what the computers of the time could handle (the graphics in Doom are actually well done high quality artwork, but obviously are limited by the resolutions of the time).

They are really scraping bottom of barrel with this remaster. Kingpin is not a classic and wasn't that good to begin with.
BUT BUT BUT... It was my first game I got here for Nix from PC POWERPLAY

www.pcpowerplay.com.au

best magazine in the world

from this place back when it was shiny and new.

Crosmando: Oh, that's the Quake 3 engine shooter where everyone looks fat.
Actually it's Quake 2 engine (id Tech 2) and yes, all characters are a bit fat. The game looks inferior to Half-Life (heavily modified Quake 1 engine) where characters open their mouths when speak.

Crosmando: Same thing happening in movies too, endless remakes and reboots. I think some people have called it "cultural cannabalism", our culture has grown stagnant and is not producing anything new so we've resorted to stealing from old things.
I would "kill" for Heretic remake or even reboot with some horror elements.

I agree completely, we need Redneck Rampage games instead!
Ugh... 3D Realms is a joke now and I wont support them. Shame... I loved Kingpin.

Really? It was pretty damn impressive for it's time. The hubworld... missions... years before GTA went fully mature...
