KasperHviid: Good news! I have long wondered about the total death of that part of internet history.

Still, personally I never cared for that format. I can not remember a single flash game or movie I want to revisit. There is something about that clipart style that just feels bland and hollow.
Well, there're these cartoons by Chuck Jones, of Duck Dodgers, Pepe LePew, Marvin the Martian & Wile E. Coyote fame.

Thomas Timberwolf, all created in Flash. It was the future, you know.

Of course, "this plugin is not supported". I assume everyone else will see the same message.

Cadaver747: Finally I can play Samorost 1 without actual flash... can I?
You could always get it free from the Dev website and play using - Adobe Flash Player Projector ... also free.

Ooh,...they have Tower Bloxx...that was always nice for wasting some time.

Darvond: Okay, but of 38,000 flash games, just how many of those are actually worth playing?
No idea, and one of the reasons I went for the much smaller download.

But with that many games and going by what I have seen in the past, the quality will be all over the shop, so surely bound to be a sizable collection of good ones ... or why go to the trouble they have.

I suspect the smaller download will have some good ones to encourage you to get more.

Dalthnock: Does this have the, uh... the Charlie... the flash "games"?

Asking for a friend, of course.
Of course. ;)

Just click the link for the full list and do a CTRL-F search of the list.

The list takes a while to download and load into you browser, but tons of great sounding games are listed ... at least going by the many titles.

I never cared much for the format either, as it seemed more a gimmick then anything worthwhile.

But years later I realized there are flash games and then there are FLASH GAMES.

I'm not sure what you mean by the clipart style, but perhaps you are referring to the least impressive ones.

But then again, maybe the likes of the Samorost series and Machinarium etc just don't appeal to you visually etc. Personally, it is their artwork that mostly drew me to them.

timppu: I was actually more interested in the Flash animations, I hope this package has them too. I have gathered and also archived quite many of them on my hard drive over the years (like I think the famous "Metallica on Napster" animations, it was Flash was it? Or the "Stackars negerslav"?). That was the time before Youtube, people would download and watch those animations.
I don't recall the names of many, but I do recall 'Cows With Guns' and wonder if that is included?

That's been somewhat preserved for now, but the quality is really bad. I think I still have the original file somewhere. Maybe. I hope so.

And of course, you don't know Jack Schitt. At least this one is in good quality.

Hey, remember when YouTube was Flash video?

I was thinking videos, not games. They were humorous, so the cheap style kind of worked, but I think there was something really unappealing about those primitive vector shapes, as opposed to a rough pen stroke which has personality.

Back then, I remember that I watched some kids draw with inspiration from a stick-figure from some flash movie. And I had this unpleasant realization that this crap was all they had to aspire to, drawing-wise.
this is awesome. thanks for heads up!

Oh ..... did I miss that? Fair enough.

Well it was early days, and for the first time allowed non professionals to whip up entertaining things, that often made you laugh, even with crap graphics ... not too dissimilar to Powerpoint presentations my kids whipped up at school ... or at home for school etc.

Quick question for any that have used it. How safe is it? I see it sets up a server, then redirects requests to that. And to do this it changes proxy settings and monitors connections. So how safe do we think this is, of course flash has always been a bit whole, but hopefully that is only when online? If I get a chance i will install on an old offline machine, but interested in others opinions on the matter. Would you install on main machine?

Well, you say that but this project is mostly just a bunch of archivists working to secure every last flash game on the internet; which makes me presume that in order to filter the wheat from the chaff, they'd have to collectively organize to vote on that.

And Flash was mostly chaff at the end of the day.

Here are a few that left a lasting impression on me so I still remember their names after several years:

* Ball Revamped: physics-based arcade games, the most notable one was Ball Revamped 2.
* Cactus McCoy: platformer series starring a humanoid plant who uses a wide variety of weapons to fight bandits in the Wild West.
* The Classroom: minimalistic stealth series where your goal is to cheat in an exam.
* Crystal Story & Crystal Story II: long JRPG with a touch of comedy.
* Cursed Treasure: fantasy-inspired tower defense.
* Exit Path: platformer starring a sticky figure running away from a totalitaristic regime. It also had a multiplayer mode, something very unusual for this type of games, which I assume unfortunately won't be playable with this as it used ArmorGames' servers.
* Fancy Pants Adventures: platformer series with hand-drawn-style graphics, fast pace and very fluid movements.
* Get Home: experimental 5-minute platformer built around a song.
* IndestructoTank: a game about a jumping tank that was perfect between study sessions in exam season.
* Infectonator: epidemic simulator.
* Kingdom Rush: arguably the most popular tower defense franchise.

These free Flash games are what nowadays are sold as "indie games", only back then developers (often one-man teams) used to upload them for free to show off what they could do.

They did mention 100 people, so a significant number have been helping out.

Logic says, that there is likely to be more chaff than wheat, but it also recognizes that there is a huge number available, and that in all likelihood a large number of the games would be quite good. Even if it is only 5% or even 1%, that is still a lot of games.
On topic of flash games...

I can't remember the name of one I liked a lot.

There were 2 castles on the edges of the screen, one yours, one enemy's (AI, not multiplayer). You both sent units at each other but you could also shoot arrows from yours ranging from normal arrows through exploding to a healing wave arrow which healed your units after landing. Goal was of course to beat the enemy. You could upgrade units and arrows between levels.

Anyone know the name by chance?
