GameRager: Also(imo) people would've done such other shooting even without columbine.
avatar
morolf: I'm not sure about that, imo the reaction of the media to the Columbine shooting was really pernicious, because it turned those two disturbed weirdos into celebrities. For some spree shooters at least the idea of achieving "glory" (or rather infamy) by their murders and thus give some kind of meaning to their empty lives is definitely a factor.
This is a big one in my opinion. Media incentivizes other weirdos to do the same thing while at the same time giving guns the sole blame. I take introspection for $500, Alex.

Again, if it's true (then again, it is FB we're talking about here so I wouldn't be surprised):

Some people on "other sites" are suggesting trying to make so many common words banned that people cannot use the site anymore and move on.......and for once I think it'd serve FB/etc right if they did it.

Absolutely.

Hehe, you know, I hope the same tactic works on YT as well. People should mass-abuse the system to the extreme and hopefully they (the owners) will see how idiotic the implementation of this auto-sencoring/auto-ban is...

The Youtube site is already having trouble sadly with mass bans/demonitizations due to the Vox articles/letters to the YT CEO/etc......and many big names have said they will leave if this continues.

BTW an aside: Did you see my Cyberpunk 2077 thread? Someone is in there basically questioning me/making me out to be a nut for posting some people being offended by the cyberpunk box art. Because the ONLY reason i'd post such(apparently) is to mock people posting such and to be x-cist/x-phobic/etc. smh

I did/do, and believe me, I myself makes fun of people... I'm not even denying that I'm a bit sardonic at times (but I don't continue non-stop or being malignent about it).

Examples: I'm picturing a certain user here as the most anhedonic user on the forum, and Beatrice (based on the last month alone) is a raging charm-troll as she roams through the forum and eats what she can come across ;P

However, I do see some of their points. Especially the last one about the rage against CP2077. This is a case where the person at interest DIDN'T attract much attention in the first place, and then you just inflame it further. In my opinion you should, at minimum, have redacted her name and then instead focused on the act/writing instead of the person...

But, having a laugh at certain peoples "behaviour" should be contained on the platform they themselves rages on, unless it escalates (like some here a known for externally). And, like just this morning someone made a thread to make fun of the absurdity of your action.

Sorry, but sometimes you reap what you sow, or something like that. If you choose to be more present / be more active on certain topics, you just need to accept the fact that you will be "targeted" sooner rather than later. :P

I myself got in a lot of heat between, was it 2015-2017, during "you know who shall be named nameless got elected", but that was to be expected. Otherwise I should stay in bed and simply be afraid of confrontation because of my opinion(s).

So far I don't see anyone being malignant in their writing...

edit nevermind.
But feel free to post irrelevant things, and then complain when you get called out.

I see your point about the redacting and will edit the pics in a bit.

Thanks for weighing in, at least, and being civil/adding to the thread.

Np, and personally I have no problem with you trying to generate some civil discussion about various things, on contrary, I find it somewhat fresh aside from the "games only"-mentality. I can't stand those that are downrepping because they don't like someone or are being offended by some topics... but I actually blame GOG for that one for being either notoriously blind or just lazy for not removing it...

In any case, I can understand the frustration, but in the end "the points don't matter"! ;P

True on all points.....I mainly make such threads(including non controversial ones like this one) to encourage dialog on stuff besides games that might also be of interest to the other GOG users.

BTW if you could remove that link you quoted(via quoting another user's reply) in your one post in the Cyberpunk thread I made I would appreciate it as it contains the person's twitter handle. Thanks again. :)
Article 17 - Bleeding heart kids want University statue of Pioneer torn down

Well it's happening again......some whiny kids want yet another statue torn down because they claim it offends someone somewhere whom they likely never talked to or will talk to(and whom they "take advantage of" by being in this country anyways, according to their claims) because they think they know what offends people and how best to handle historical items.

The "funny" thing is the kids complaining(even in the article comments) seem to be upset at people taking native american's lands/things yet they remain in the US and don't give their lands/things back to the natives. Odd, ain't it?
Those who want to delete, censor or tear down history are bound to repeat it in other shapes and forms. If something was wrong, let it remain as a reminder so that past mistake remains in the past.

I understand that this is a small, local news station, but to me the whole article seem sloppy/short.

First; what exactly is, according to this student, with this statue that oozes glorified violence?

Is it "A white bearded man" or is it "A bearded white man"? The connotation is important here.
Is it just because of race? Heck, even black african people sold their own people to white foreigners, same goes for native indians but that's also being buried.

The whip? It's not uncommon for using a whip when managing horses, cows, bulls, sheeps... Frankly, a whip has been used for signalling and managing animals 99 % throughout the history, and just a tiny small part on indians/slaves.

The rifle? Used as protection and hunting for food, but just like a knife it can misused. Even native indians killed each other.

It's a nameless pioneer, not a known killer, and yet they equate being a pioneer is the same as being a native indian killer. And let's be really blunt (but short) here; thousands of people from the Europe emigrated to America, many highly educated... without this immigration the America would not have progressed to the point where these students could take their degree, let alone the scientific method. Talk about "slapping the hand that feeds them" and not understanding their own history :P

That said, it didn't go bloodlessly sadly, but this is hilariously one-sided and blowing it out of proportion.

EDIT: I almost forgot; most native indians (or Americans) were the ones that were glorifying violence and had rituals that based on our civilized standard would be called "perverse brutal/bloody", and these students are painting a fairy tale for themselves. :D
