Most christian/etc days of major observation(christmas/easter/etc) were co-opted from/borrowed elements from pagan traditions. They did this to get pagans to convert and join the flock, and smooth relations with the ones who wouldn't. That is why Jesus's birthday(which we actually do not know the date of) was set on a pagan "holiday", and the same was done with jesus's death-resurrection.
Also who says pagan gods are demons? Oh right.....other religions......it's not like they'd have a reason to lie, right?
