sanscript: I understand that this is a small, local news station, but to me the whole article seem sloppy/short.

First; what exactly is, according to this student, with this statue that oozes glorified violence?

Is it "A white bearded man" or is it "A bearded white man"? The connotation is important here.
Is it just because of race? Heck, even black african people sold their own people to white foreigners, same goes for native indians but that's also being buried.

The whip? It's not uncommon for using a whip when managing horses, cows, bulls, sheeps... Frankly, a whip has been used for signalling and managing animals 99 % throughout the history, and just a tiny small part on indians/slaves.

The rifle? Used as protection and hunting for food, but just like a knife it can misused. Even native indians killed each other.

It's a nameless pioneer, not a known killer, and yet they equate being a pioneer is the same as being a native indian killer. And let's be really blunt (but short) here; thousands of people from the Europe emigrated to America, many highly educated... without this immigration the America would not have progressed to the point where these students could take their degree, let alone the scientific method. Talk about "slapping the hand that feeds them" and not understanding their own history :P

That said, it didn't go bloodlessly sadly, but this is hilariously one-sided and blowing it out of proportion.

EDIT: I almost forgot; most native indians (or Americans) were the ones that were glorifying violence and had rituals that based on our civilized standard would be called "perverse brutal/bloody", and these students are painting a fairy tale for themselves. :D
Sorry the article is so short, btw.....it was what I came across initially.

As for your reply: Great points and very succinct/full of great dialog.

And yeah, native americans fought each other constantly just as we did to them when we came to this land, yet the ones in school today seem to ignore those facts & tend to thin k it all went down like the Pochahontas in the disney film of the same name,
Article 18 - Young Adult in UK gets 4 YEARS+ for hateful poster with Prince Harry on it

So now you can't even make such images without the threat of jail time in the UK. Now I could understand some sort of punishment(community service/etc) for such things & I abhor such words as were used by the young adult against the Prince, but 4 YEARS IN JAIL for a poster of Prince Harry with a gun to his head? Really?

All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.

We're slowly regressing to the point where you can't criticize the ruling class and/or certain political hierarchies. It's scary.

I made this post more to focus on the fact that someone made a picture of someone famous and got jail time more than someone assaulting someone but your points are valid too.

What? That's exactly what I commented on, I never mentioned assault.

I was trying to point out I was trying to focus less on the "political" aspect of who was portrayed in the pic to stay within board rules.

As for assault I just brought that up to show how ludicrous this is.

falster: The problem is, its not just "someone famous"

its a member of the royal family, and as such, there are certain people that will frown upon an image as such, not see the "humour" as it were, and will promote the imagery as a threat on life. its sensationalism as it is (the image) but its not necessarily promoting regicide/assassination

HOWEVER

now im not saying I agree with that, or 4 years imprisonment, but in reality, you cant really do things like that.

same as that idiot Kathy griffin doing it with the trump head. now yes, no prison, but she basically got screwed over for it and will never ever come back from that.

its just not the done thing
I said they were famous to avoid mentioning their title more as per gog's anti-politics talk rules.

And I agree with you....it should be punished somehow(preferrably by people criticizing it and maybe him being background checked by police/etc to be safe) but not by 4 years in jail.

falster: Yes.

The question you have to ask yourself is, "would I do that"

probably no

and theres a reason for that.

but yes, 4 years in prison is just an example being made, a point hammered home.
I wouldn't do that but I have saved some silly/"hateful" memes over the years that others have made and see no problem with the ones that aren't direct threats/calls to violence/etc.

And yeah it's a point being made to show others to fall in line....sad, really....

falster: yep yep
The NPC meme(which many such types take offense to as it hits home too hard) is very real, sadly.

Look up NPC University on YT for some fun skits on the matter if you have time/want to/are into such things.

Article 19 - Religious Group petitions to have show taken off Netflix which "promotes satanism"

The funny thing here is that while this is a dumb reason to push for a show to be removed(akin to the "satanic panic" of decades past), the show isn't even on Netflix....it's on Amazon. o.0

A bit late but I'll try anyway.

A18: As DadJoke Bond wrote, it's actually scary. UK have for many years now shown a complete tendency towards fascism and the road to to thought policing is relatively near... "encouraging terrorism" is such a loose term.

Everything from opinions, humour, and art is subject for overzealous control, not to mention (think it was from ArsTecnica or something), UK has one the largest state surveillance system in the world (perhaps only surpassed by China?)

The need to protect oneself seem to backfire into just more control and policing every minute thing... As far as I know he didn't even get a warning and now he's life is essentially ruined because of his jail time. Well, his list of options gets rather small when he gets out.

I wonder how many years away we are from a full conflict again, not unlike the 1789 where normal people were simply fed up with status quo.

Perhaps he should hear/fell some sort of public "reprimand" ala being locked out of social media, or some sort of state service where you work off your sentence and not putting it on the record, but jail?

For some reason (I think why) I was targeted for the first time just a few hours after my thoughts on A17... My inner vioce told me that I should be prepared for that, but the thing I don't understand is that it varies very highly who/what get low rated... like a tug-war :)
