As much as i hate Last Christmas with passion, it's very sad to see another artist pass away especially since he was so young.

ciomalau: in the 00s i watched an interview with him and he didn't seem very happy. that's also when he made a video "shoot the dog" - i guess he was referring to george bush? idk. and i heard some flood destroyed a studio of his also at that time. then more recently he gave away the rights to all of his songs. i think he knew he was going to die...
From the wiki:

"Michael wrote "Shoot the Dog", a song critical about the friendly relationship between the British and American governments, in particular Tony Blair and George W. Bush, with their involvement in the Iraq War.[154] Michael voiced his concern about the lack of public consultation in the UK regarding the War on Terror: "On an issue as enormous as the possible bombing of Iraq, how can you represent us when you haven't asked us what we think?"[154]"

Hadn't heard anything about this before your post.
RIP on the Last Christmas :(
One of my favs. RIP.
This year truly sucks.

darthspudius: Rick Parfitt, Keith Emerson, Greg Lake, the entire Alexandrov Ensemble, Sandy Pearlman, George Martin, Maurice White, Jimmy Bain, Dale Griffin... a lot more then you think.
Yeah. The 4 I mentioned were the ones that really pained me personally, because I really loved a lot of their music.

Even though they were all past their prime creative years, it still saddens me to know that they won't be making any more music.

Of course, they were other things to other people, but to me they were music gods.

It's a shame that he went off the rails as he was a very talented songwriter in his younger days.
He and Andrew Ridgeley went to school near me and my oldest brother knew them, nice guys from all accounts.
Maybe a bit ironic, but I knew him more as a Gay Icon than as a singer. 2016 hates music for sure.

Kleetus: I don't get it either, 53 year olds do not "pass away peacefully" unless they are seriously ill or abusing drugs.
Supposedly an old partner he had died of aids but George never got himself tested. It's possible that's why he died (speculation of course)
The only things I've read that GM possibly had a heart attack... and the fact that he has had problems with drugs for the last decade or so (been arrested driving under the influence of drugs (in 2010?) etc.). So maybe it is drugs then. But so far they are being very hush hush about the cause of death, but I guess we will hear sooner or later.

Madonna tweeted her wish that 2016 should go away already ("fuck off", her words) as so many celebrities have died this year. I can fully understand her sentiments when celebrities younger than her keep dropping off like flies around her. It would make me worried too!

Back when it was revealed he is gay, I recall quite many women being veeery disappointed. Like the one saying "What a waste!".
Got quite surprised when I heard the news on the radio this morning. Even more so as the very last video I had watched on Youtube before taking my Christmas break was the Music Video Sins about his MV of "Last Christmas" :(

Overall, he was great and a big part of the 80-90's pop music I enjoyed but I prefered his low-key songs, I always thought that suited his voice style better:

Yeah, his publicist said that Michael had died of suspected heart failure. I think even they might not know the real cause of death until an autopsy.

True. I know a lot of women with the same feeling.

Nah. They know. Look at the quote...he died peacefully at home among family. They knew something was up. He's been reclusive for the last few years. I find it likely he was diagnosed with something and it was just a matter of time. Whether it was cancer or whatnot, we don't know.

And for the record, "suspected heart failure" is a catch all for any serious disease because in the end the heart stops...
