Did you know that May is Zombie Awareness Month? Well, it is and it is a time for people to ponder and explore the idea of a zombie apocalypse. It’s also the perfect time to dive into some zombie and undead themed video games!

We’re helping kick off the celebrations by running a promotion on a variety of zombie-themed games available on GOG.COM. In addition to the sale, this is also the perfect time to announce that we are bringing back the classic zombie series, The Walking Dead to GOG.COM. If you want even more zombie goodness, you can now also enjoy the turned-based zombie title Dead Age and strategy rogue-lite Deadly Days, as these two titles are now available, as well.

If you are looking for some games to help celebrate the occasion, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with 12 fantastic titles that all focus on the undead. Check them out below!

Undead Horde
Let’s start this list with a game that fully epitomizes the zombie theme, Undead Horde. In this title, you have one goal - clear the land of those pesky humans.

Undead Horde is a real-time strategy title that also features some fun RPG elements. There’s also some hack-and-slash gameplay, really making this something for everyone. Raise the dead, recruit followers, level up your skills, and build up your base to help reach your goal!

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
In this title, we are replacing zombies with vampires, but that’s ok because you play as a human that has been brought back from the dead and turned into a vampire. See, it fits the theme!

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is an action RPG title that features an amazing story, interesting characters, and plenty of unique abilities that will make dispatching your foes both fun and unique. If gritty, engrossing stories are your thing, definitely check this one out.

Infectonator 3: Apocalypse
Take control of zombies, bioweapons, and more in this fast-paced strategy title that tasks you with taking over the world with your horde of zombies.

In Infectonator 3: Apocalypse you’ll travel to different countries and locations, reigning terror on unsuspecting people all while leveling up your zombies and creating new ones along the way. The game features a fun pixel-art style, so if you are a fan of that, this one is definitely worth your time.

NecroVision
If first-person shooters are more your speed, NecroVision is worth a look. This alternate history title explores what would happen if vampires, zombies, and demons were also included in World War I.

You play as Simon Bukner, a British soldier that quickly finds themselves in the middle of a war they knew nothing about. Vampires are almost extinct and demons are running rampant. Long story short, and we don’t want to spoil too much, but you are the Chosen One and there ends up being dragons involved in the game. Yes. Dragons. In World War I.

Zombotron
This title has Zombie in the title, so you know we had to include it on this list. Zombotron is a side-scrolling action-adventure title that gives players the chance to unleash a bullet storm of lead on near-endless zombies.

In addition to weaponry, you can also use the environment to get rid of zombies, as well as vehicles to make quick work of the undead. If you like side-scrollers and campy stories, keep an eye on this one.

Guns, Gore & Cannoli
You can probably tell from the title that this game isn’t afraid to have a little fun while also dealing with a deadly zombie invasion.

Set in the roarings 20s, in Guns, Gore & Cannoli you play as a member of a mob family during the height of the prohibition. Fight rival gang members and zombies while uncovering a story of betrayal and a splash of government conspiracy in this 2D shoot-em-up.

Deadlight: Director's Cut
This is another side scroller on our list, but this one really takes the visuals to another level. Deadlight: Director's Cut is a gorgeous look at an alternative version of 1986 after a zombie outbreak nearly destroys all of human civilization.

You’ll need to use all of your skills to survive. Ammo can be scarce, so sometimes, avoiding fights is the answer. Other times, you’ll need to blast your way through a section. There are also puzzles involved, making this a well-rounded action-adventure platformer.

Zombie Night Terror
Do you remember the classic game Lemmings? The one where you helped waves of little creatures get to the end goal? If you liked that, you’ll love Zombie Night Terror because it is basically that, but with zombies.

In Zombie Night Terror, you have to control hordes of zombies and help them navigate levels to avoid pitfalls and traps set by the humans trying to protect themselves.

BloodRayne
We’re going back to vampires with this one and away from the side scroller. BloodRayne, first released in 2003, is a 3rd person action-adventure game that has you playing as the vampire, Rayne.

Set between the two World Wars, you play as an agent for the Brimstone Society that is intent on destroying supernatural threats. What starts as a simple goal quickly becomes bigger, as the story unfolds to involve Germany, Nazis, and of course, the undead.

They Are Billions
You know what doesn’t get enough zombie love? Steampunk-inspired worlds. They Are Billions looks to make that right. This strategy title tasks you with fending off countless waves off zombies as you protect the last of humanity.

Build your base and evolve it with improved technologies that will help you fight a seemingly unwinnable battle across 48 different missions.

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
If you are looking for a classic action title, look no further than Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. First released in 1999, this platformer combines puzzles and hack and slash combat to provide a great gameplay experience to match the great story.

You play as the vampire-turned-wraith Raziel and you will use your powers to move between the world of the living and a spectral plane to fight various types of enemies and solve puzzles along the way.

Project Zomboid
If you prefer a more personal touch with your zombie apocalypse experience and want to see how long you can last, Project Zomboid is for you.

This title - which can be played alone or with friends - takes a realistic approach to the genre, requiring players to play smart in order to survive for as long as possible. Find shelter and food and water, and arm yourself as you struggle to see the light of a new day.

There you have it, some zombie (and vampire) titles to help celebrate Zombie Awareness Month. Now, get out there and kick some zombie (or human) butt!

What do you think? Plan on checking out some of these undead games to celebrate the month? What are some of your favorite zombie games? Let us know down in the comments!

Retroman88: Guns, Gore & Cannoli? I have never heard of this before...does it come recommended?
If you like arcade games with shoot'em up and plataformer elements it's a good game. It no has the rhythm of games like Metal Slug. It is a little slower and forces you to manage the ammunition of the extra weapons well. In fact, some achievements give the game extra life in that sense. They suggest you finish some areas with a certain weapon, which requires extra effort and to know the game well.

The story is typical of gangsters mixed with a zombie apocalypse giving it a touch of humor. Don't expect much, but it doesn't bother either. In fact, it is one of the elements for which the game has a slower gameplay. It's more focused on telling you the story than having frenzied gameplay elements, but it makes up for it by forcing you to manage ammo well especially at higher levels of difficulty.

Both parts are highly recommended if you like this type of games. Especially the second one in coop is a great experience.

I'm surprised... and a little disappointed that Gog didn't include Kerberos Productions' Fort Zombie, or even Popcap Games' Plants VS Zombies...

Fully agree. It's look like it's the Tequila Works game.

idbeholdME: Damn. A BloodRayne discount after almost 3 years but only 30%? What happened?

The last discount was 80% off BR 1 and 90% off BR2 in June 2017. Now to decide if that is enough or risking having to wait another 3 years for the next discount... :/
There was a rumor some years ago that the dev Majesco was close to the bankruptcy. Maybe they aren't able to apply huge discounts currently...

Zombie night terror doesn't look like it's on sale.

tfishell: I'd like to see Dead Island here :)
Yep, both of them are cracking games. Can’t see why they are not here as same dev as dying light, just and earlier version.

Also there is escape dead island, which isn’t bad, they tried to cross RE and dead island. In some ways it works, in others not.

Don’t know if dead island retro revenge is any good, looks ok.

As said by others during other sales, GOG doesn't put all similar games together for a sale...just what the IP holders allow them to sell that fits under said theme.

Voted and +1 to this :)

Also POSSIBLE SITE BUG(or store overload):

Is anyone else getting the message that their payment method couldn't be verified?

I am getting it on some games, but not others...even though I have purchases left in my daily limit(game copies and total purchases per day)...and I have money for them so I know it's not a problem on my end.
