Hi guys.
I have Win10 64bit installed and the game actually does function as installed without any special actions needed. Just launch the game from the "gangsters.exe" file in the game directory (usually found under c:\GOG Games\Gangsters\).

However I did experience some lag/delay issues to which I found a 'partial' fix for on this forum (Thanks to user Treatid):
1) Run regedit.exe
2) Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/AppCompatFlags/Layers
3) You should see an entry for Gangster.exe. Double click it to edit it.
4) Replace the entry currently in it with
"$ DWM8And16BitMitigation 8And16BitTimedPriSync 8And16BitAggregateBlts Layer_ForceDirectDrawEmulation"
(remove the quotes)

(Original thread: "does_not_work_in_windows_8")

The Menu's are still not visible. But alt-tabbing out of the game will make the text show (may crash computer though, so write it down).

So far so good..

I NEED HELP THOUGH. I wrote 'partial' fix to the delay issue because I am still experiencing delay whenever the map (roof top) view is displayed when giving orders and when in working week - no difference. Its frustrating and unfortunately it gets worse during the game.

Any one know how to fix this?

I tried:
* Disabling Vertical Sync in Geforce GTX 560
* Disabling mouse precision
* Disabling/reducing administrator rights
* Kill-explorer "fix" (fyi. not needed with the above regedit fix)

I hope someone can help :)

Best regards,
Walther
You might also want to try the fix I created here. It does not require you to use a hex editor or change any registry keys. It will also allow you to play the game natively on Windows 10 without requiring VirtualBox or any kind of virtualization.

This makes the text show up on the main menu, but unfortunately none of the menu items are clickable anymore. I'm on Windows 10 and made sure the compatibility settings matched those in the picture.

EDIT: Rather, the clickable areas for the menu buttons appear not to be lined up with the buttons themselves. For example, clicking on the left side of the Tutorial button makes the game exit out. The fix appears to have messed up the button alignments for me.

Disable "display scaling on high DPI devices" on the compatibility tab and the button allignment will be correct.

I tried your fix, but the game crashes as soon as it wants to show the intro. Without your fix the game runs, but then the menu text is missing.

@rhaak,

1. What video card do you have?
2. Try modifying the dsound.ini file and disabling the "DDrawCompat" option and let me know if this solves the crash.
3. I just updated the Gangsters fix. Try redownloading the fix from here. I fix several crashes in the latest vision of my dxwrapper tool.

1. I have a GeForce GTX 1060
2. When I disable the "DDrawCompat" option, the crash is gone, but then the menu has no text
3. The updated version doesn't fix the crash

Have the same issue as rhaak:

1. Nvidia Strix GTX980
2. DDrawCompat = 0 - Makes the crash go away, but, same as before, no menu text
3. DDrawCompat = 1 - Produces this error log:

4. Running the .exe from the Game directory, as Admin
5. Compatibility mode - Windows XP (Service pack 2)
Try disabling the Compatibility mode settings. See the wiki here for what the Compatibility mode settings should be set to.
I fixed my crash problem !! I have a G-SYNC monitor. I disabled G-SYNC for gangsters.exe in the NVidia control panel and it no longer crashes.

Maybe what this game really needs is a remake or a sequel or something.

Hi guys,

Do you still have no solution?

I just copied 2 files into the game folder and it works like a charm.

Google this: gangsters organized crime no text

Take the github link, might be third position.

Daniel
