LentFilms: Interesting posts Baggins and Santiago! Exactly the type of indepth opinion pieces I wanted to hear :)

KingCrimson250: I'm not particularly interested in playing it, but I'm tempted to buy it anyway. Why? Because I would absolutely love to see this style of remake for GK2, and if this one sells enough, they might do just that.

LentFilms: I personally would rather see a remastered version of the game, essentially just improving the FMV quality.
Would be cool to see that game the way it looked prior to getting compressed to hell.
yes! agreed.

I wouldn't like to see gk2 totally remade...just better video quality and I'd be happy.

maybe a hint system to keep it frustration free. I remember a few awful puzzles. the cuckoo clock puzzle and the one where you have to splice tapes for the guy at the zoo. ...also the pigeon solution and hidden compartments in the castle. that game gave me a few snags. but otherwise it was so good I still call it one of my favorites.

gk3 is the one that needs a visual makeover from the ground up but that's just my opinion...

Baggins: A DVD/Blue Ray-quality version of GK2 would be awesome. Unfortunately I doubt anyone has the original video masters... Just like they lost the masters for voice work for GK1.
Something tells me the original voices for GK1 were simply assumed lost. As in, they never bothered looking.
I doubt the company that made the remake could afford the royalties for reusing the old actor's recordings in a new game. New, cheaper, actors were probably a more economically sound path.
A similar case happened with the HD remakes of Silent Hill.

I really don't think that's the case. It's been 21 years. Looong time - more likely that it's just no longer archived or wasn't in the first place. It was recorded in the early 90s. They didn't have the possibilities like today. Storage was expensive. Games weren't even considered an art form and rather childish - they only meant something to the people who played them. The company which produced it is now defunct. When companies close doors lots of stuff is regularly thrown out, destroyed, sold...

Yes, that very well may be the case. The original assets for the game are most likely destroyed or scattered all over the place. Though, as I said, something tells me an investigation was never attempted, due to knowing that the royalties for re-using the recordings would cost too much.

Now this is, of course, just speculation. None of my concerns could hold any water.
However, even if the voices weren't lost, I still question if the original voices would have been used.
