I recently purchased GK3 from the site but I'm unable to play it correctly on Vista due graphics flickering all the time. I tried changing the graphics options without any luck (it always ends up flickering back), I'd appreciate help with this matter. Thanks!!

I assume that you've tried turning off "Incremental rendering" or increasing the LOD (Level of detail) to maximum? I had a problem like you are describing and that fixed it for me.

Yes, I tried doing so, the flicker goes down a little bit, but it's still there... Should I keep the 3D driver to the software one or NVIDIA? I've tried multiple combinations but everything ends up with the flickering... :(
Well I am having the same problem and I tried all the workarounds I could find to get it fixed, didn't really fix the issue.

But since this is an old game, I have a few speculations on the reason behind this problem:-

1) Monitor's refresh rate: Maybe the newer monitor's have higher refresh rates and the game is not optimized for it?

2) OS compatibility: Since this is an old game, you might want to try running the game on compatibility mode, or perhaps killing explorer.exe before starting the game and then running it when the game closes. Helped me play old games like Road Rash, Age of Empires 2, etc. Also you might want to disable visual themes.

Though these aren't actually fixes, you might want to try them and see if it helps you.
I'm having a pretty same issue really.
It's i7, Nvidia GTX 460, Windows 8.

Both renderers work well without any display problems, but they are slow. It's ok when you glide around rooms, but when it takes to animations - everything is so slow. Have no idea where to look.
Yeah, I have the same problem. Turning off Incremental rendering. Stopped the flicker....

It also stopped the game with a fatal application error.

The software renderer works for me, maybe, I have not been past the first room, but looks awful. Oh well.
I am getting fatal exception errors at the end of every game cinematic. GOG needs to address this issue.
Having the same problem. I see this hasn't been addressed for many months... Come on!!
Go into the game folder and run the exe file. Don't use the shortcut to start the game. I was having the same problem until I tried the exe with that incremental graphics option off and I already noticed substantially less flickering.

This happens here if I try using antialising.

Where do you access the graphics? The flickering is so bad I have to guess where anything on the screen is, but so far I haven't been able to find any options.

I installed the game again to be sure, but if you cannot see anything to adjust the graphics in-game, then you could try editing the entry for Gabriel Knight 3 in the Windows Registry. For some reason, they chose to place those settings there and not in a .ini or .cfg type of text file. If you need help on how to use the registry, feel free to ask, or check out how via a Google Search. Just be careful not to touch anything other than the stuff mentioned.

The options should be located at: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sierra On-Line\Gabriel Knight 3\Engine\Hardware

Inside I found the following options shown in the screenshot I have attached. You can adjust the "Incremental Rendering" to "0" by double-clicking on it, changing the number to 0, then pressing ENTER or clicking OK. This is the option that stopped the flickering for me.

If you can see the game from that point, you can adjust the graphics options in-game by right-clicking somewhere and clicking on the options button.

If you want a resolution other than the ones the game provides for you, you can adjust this in the registry under:

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sierra On-Line\Gabriel Knight 3\Engine

There should be a "Screen_Height" and a "Screen_Width" option which you can change to the resolution of your choice.

I hope this is of help to you. I'm no expert on this sort of thing, but I have had to fiddle with it in the past.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me out!

I didn't have a Incremental Rendering entry, so I added one myself (Reg_DWORD) and set it to 0. I also added a Surface Quality entry (REG_SZ) and set it to Low. I've also changed width and height to my screen's.

It seems to have helped with the flckering in the menu page and the intro vid, but not in the game itself. So, still unplayable for me. It seemed weird that I had different registry entries than the ones I can see in your .png I'm sending the ones i have ( i've manually added the two mentioned above).

If anyone who has a playable version of the game could send us a screenshot of their registry, it might be helpful into showing us other settings that we're missing and can input manually.

Cheers!

Definitely hit up GOG Support. There have been issues with this game for years and it wouldn't hurt to remind them. You never know. :)
I actually thought it was GOG's job to make the game run without any problems at all. That's why I bought GK3 by them. I'm actually dissapointed that I had to find a solution myself.

LyraVonRavenlock - I finally got the game to work on my WIN10.
I've tried all different settings in the game and different compability settings as well.. But there was always some problems. Animation where slow. Flickering. Menu was very slow and so on..

I fixed the problem using DgVoodoo. My game finally runs very smooth.
DgVoodoo can be a little weird setting up, but try.
And I will be happy to help you with the settings I'm using to run the game. Just say so.

Now I will enjoy this wonderful game. :)
