Hi folks,

I find myself very interested in these games but I have generally found FMV games to be cringe-inducing sessions filled with poorly written dialogue and bad acting.

How does this series stack up? Is the FMV great? Is it horrible but the game is so good anyway that it's worth it to endure the acting?

Thanks

It's a mix of both, honestly. The actor who does Gabriel is a little on the bad side, but he gets a few good moments of acting in occasionally. The game as a whole is generally well written and well acted, but it definitely feels the tiniest bit overdone at points (the exaggerated level of emotions expressed by Grace and Gerde toward each other comes to mind). That said, GK2 is the only one in the series to use FMV, and it actually surpasses the acting in other entries in the series.
It's kind of ... weird. It should be bad, and it is. But with that it gets a certain charm. It shows it's age but it's cute like that. I thought it conveyed the mood and atmosphere really well I think.
I thought the writing made up for the acting. It has a great story, and the dialogue was well written.

I like the subject matter a tad better than the first game, but the first game has generally better acting in most places. However, not all parts in the first game were acted well... There are some cringe-inducing parts.
It turned out better than I thought it would. Very quickly I stopped noticing that it's FMV and started enjoying the game, so to me, in this instance, FMV is not a problem at all.
I'd say it's neither. It's not horrible or excellent. It's competant.

To be honest, it varies between the characters. Dean Erickson (Gabriel) is OK with a few bad moments, Peter Lucas (Von Glover) is great and some of the secondary characters (especially Sepp Huber) are pretty bad.
I always thought it was one of the better FMV games of its day. Not as good as Wing Commander but still pretty good. Though as mentioned it had some bad parts.
