When I jump, the beacon map is empty except a 'exit' beacon, somtimes a 'shop' and sometimes a distress beacon.
But besides this ist is empty and not at all looking like the fig. in the teaser-movie (around 1:16). No other objects aor background graphics.
I wonder, if one you you had the same problem and might provide a solution?

It's a driver-related issue. From within the Catalyst Control Center you can change the Anti-Aliasing filter settings to fix the problem. Create an application profile for FTL setting the AA filter to "standard", the map should then be visible.

Where does a person locate the Catalyst Control center?

It should be amongst Windows' applications, you should easily find it in the "Start" menu, depending on which Windows version you use. In the case you haven't installed it during ATI driver's installation, you can repeat the installation process to get it.

I am running Windows Vista on a HP with and Intel Centrino processor. I did some searches and I didn't come up with any of these terms in a search. Is there any additional advice you can lend?

First of all, are you sure you have an ATI graphic card?
If the answer is yes, you can reinstall/update the video driver downloading it from here. When installing, be sure to install the control center as well.

I am running off a laptop and in my searches it does not appear that I have that kind of graphic card.

Well, in that case you must not worry about Catalyst Control Center. I assume you have a problem with FTL, but it is surely not related with the ATI driver, since you haven't it.
