I want to play vanilla FS2 (no FSO - I know it looks better but I'm just a retro kind of guy), but came across this issue: the textures looks blurry despite having graphics maxed out in the options screen. I had this same issue with FS1, but I could get around it by playing with no 3D acceleration (software mode). Unfortunately the FS2 doesn't work in software mode. I even tried it with 3dfx glide wrapper (nglide) and run it in glide version, on every graphics mode available (Direct 3D 16/32bit 640x480/1024x768) - but the issue remains. I remeber playing it a while back and the textures looked crisp and detailed, but that was probably (can't remember exactly) on older video card (GF8600GT, now I have450GTS on board) and certainly on older drivers. I tried updating my drivers from 266 to 275 - no change. I'm gonna try some older drivers, but maybe there is some other workaround for this issue.

I'm open for the suggestion on how to get rid of those blurry textures in FS1 3D accelerated mode also .

Edit: I tried almost all drivers available for the GTS450 and no change. So I downloaded fs2_open_3_6_12_INF_SSE2.zip and Launcher55g.zip and uzipped into FS2 folder, ran it once through the launcher without any mods - the textures looked OK, so then I used vanilla FS2.exe and to my surpise the texures looked like they should be. So I deleted the files which were in those zip files mentioned earlier and the "launcher6.ini" file and "Install" and "temp" folders created after running FS Open (although not the files added in "data" directory) and the textures still looks OK. So maybe there are some changes made in the registry? I don't know, but it works. I wonder if the same changes could be made to run FS1 in 3D accelerated mode with proper texture resolution (if of course this is registry dependent)???

Very unlikely. :P
I actually managed to run FS1 with proper texture resolution in 3dfx mode with nGlide 0.97! And FS2 works as mentioned earlier after applying running and removing latest FSOpen (with vanilla FS2.exe).

QuantumDelta: Very unlikely. :P
Actually it is possible to see crisp textures in FS1 in Drect3D mode - today I experimented with adding some regisrty values and if you add to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Volition\Freespace
new DWORD value, and name it
D3DTextureDivider
the value can be left as is (0), also tried (1) and had the same result - crisp textures as they should be in accelerated mode!

See attachment for reference.

To QuantumDelta -> :P
