So I just installed FS1 on Vista x64, and I've run into a small problem. As soon as I enter any mission, I'm immediately and permanently stuck in a spin, almost like I'm using a poorly calibrated joystick. I've looked around in the in-game options and I can't find any way to calibrate my mouse, so I'm at a bit of a loss. I looked for some compatibility mode option that might help me out, but didn't see anything.
I'd like to note that I'm using a Logitech G5.
So, has anyone else had this problem or does anyone have some advice for me?

Hmm...
Is there a button/wheel on the mouse for axis-spin? It so could it be a toggle instead of a "Hold to use"?...If that makes sense.
Could the Left/Right motion of the mouse be bound as Spin instead of Aim?
Make sure that that key config (in game) "Bank Axis" is not set to any Mouse Axis.

The mouse doesn't have to be calibrated, as unlike a joystick it is an absolute input device with no "center" position.
I think your game is improperly setup, because it detects a joystick where there is none.
Run the "launcher" applet that came with the game, and check out the joystick panel. If you have no joystick, then it should be set to none.
If that didn't help, than go into the options screen (in-game) and check your controls. Whatever is set to "banking" should be cleared.

I know the mouse doesn't have to be calibrated, I was likening what is happening to an uncalibrated joystick.
All the controls are set to default (which works fine on my laptop, btw), and I haven't found any bind that will fix my problem.
Flaser, what "launcher" applet are you referring to? You may be thinking of FS2, because I can't find what you're referring to.
I've tried google a few times but can't find anything. You may wish to try the ww.hard-light.com (i think) forums.

Okay, so I had the same problem and I figured it out. Go into the directory where you have freespace installed default
C:/program files/gog.com/freespace
and launch the freespace application exe. This gives you a launcher, then go into setup, go to the joystick tab and in the joystick dropdown menu select <none>. This worked for me, hope it does for you!
Edit: Just wanted to elaborate, you want the freespace.exe the actual .exe that launches the game is fs.exe
