Howdy, I'm using the easy package installer for Freespace 2 Open but when I install it tells me that it could not download a config file. I'm not sure how to fix this or if it's even something that needs to be fixed. Any help?

Which config file? What OS are you using?

A config file could not be downloaded
(http://fsport.hard-light.net/installer/fsport.txt)

Do you want to continue without the missing sections?
The installation might not work, but missing files can be downloaded when the resource has been fixed.

That's the message I'm getting. On Windows 7 64.

Hmmm ... sorry I'm afraid I can't really help you on this one. Have you tried the hard-light forums?

However, it does seem that the problem config file is for the Freespace 1 mod for the FSO project (that's what the FSport is), so playing Freespace 2 through the Freespace Open Launcher should be fine. I'm not sure if the Freespace 1 mod will still work but Freespace 2 should work fine.
Okay, thanks. Not being able to play FS1 is not a big deal.

Anyways, now I'm trying to launch it using the FSO launcher and it tells me that the launcher must be in the same directory as the binary I am trying to use. No clue what that means, besides that I cannot click 'run' in the launcher =(. I have Freespace 2 installed right in C:\Freespace 2 and I also installed FSO to that. So not sure what I'm doing wrong now. Gad I bought a joystick just to play this because I love it and I cannot figure out how to play it. I've done FSO fine in the past =(.

Going to try the manual install.

Yay it works... now just have to figure out how to make it detect the frakkin joystick in the game... frakkin hell.

Congrats (well mostly)! Unfortunately I am using the Mac FSO, so I can't really help you ... hopefully someone with a Windows FSO will read this (or you figure it out again :).

You can install FS1 Port manually.
