I can not get the dialogues spoken normally + the text output of the dialogue. The CD-version brings no text (although the controls say so under CTRL+C). The floppy version shows text, but there is no voice audio output.

My memory might not be exactly right, but I think in this case it's an either/or option for voice or text.

The CD-ROM version had voice audio, but misses out a lot of dialogue to save space.
The floppy version is text only, but has the full script left intact.

From what I read, most of the truncated text had no impact on the plot itself. But Josh Mandel had a ball writing unique lines of text all over the place, like, you can combine every item on every other item (including using the item on itself) and you will get a unique message for each and every single combination. You can also walk around and use every item in the game on every character in the game to initiate funny conversations. Plus several shovelfuls of funny lines hidden all over the place for using items on objects in the backgrounds.

I read that In the CD version they threw the axe on a whole lot of that stuff, and replaced them with a generic "It doesn't work" or "You can't do that" message if using an item doesn't solve a puzzle. But I also heard a lot of good things in regard to the voice acting in the CD version, plus they re-recorded the Ballad Of Freddy Pharkas to add lyrics and all.

But I have only played the game once and only played the floppy version of that game so I'm not an expert on what was cut and what was not in the CD version.
I read this about the game in an Adventure Gamers review:

"Fortunately, the Text Only version is still available on the CD version, but it requires an edit of the Sierra.ini file to enable (change the resAUD value to a bogus CD-ROM drive."

Hopefully this information will be useful to someone.
This is what it's got for me in there:

[Info]
title = Freddy Pharkas, Frontier Pharmacist
audiobuffs = 4
confirmdac = true
confirmmidi = true
minHunk = 223k

Not a dealbreaker, been waiting a long while to get this game legitimately. Wish their was dual audio and text though.
The Floppy version is in the FDD subdirectory. I haven't tested if it runs on Dosbox, but both versions work with Scummvm.
Just point ScummVm to the installation folder and it will detect the talkie version. You're then able to choose audio AND text in ScummVm's audio configuration. But with ScummVm, most graphics filters don't work in fullscreen.

Thanks. According to information gathered on another forum, one should add a line in the file SIERRA.INI, with the value :
resAUD = [path to AUDIO directory]

The only problem is that I don't know how to specify this path. I supposed Dosbox was asked to mount to installation folder as a C drive, so I tried "resAUD = C:\AUDIO", but it did not work.

If someone has an idea... ;)

1) install Freddy Pharkas using the GOG installer.

2) Download and install ScummVM from the ScummVM website downloads link

3) Run ScummVM.

4) Choose ADD button

5) point it to where you had GOG install the Freddy Pharkas Philes

6) Select Freddy Pharkas in the ScummVM list

7) Choose OPTIONS

8) Select AUDIO

9) Select the radio button that says "BOTH"

Eh voila, she is done!

You will not get ALL the text but you will get most of it. ScummVM does not seem to recognize where there are blocks of linked text that would normally be played one after the other with no user input in the game, so you'll only get the first block of text in those cases. But you'll get most of it.

BTW - you will need to run it from ScummVM now instead of the installed link that uses DOSBox. Just open ScummVM and select it from the list and run it.
