Hi,

Complete first-timer to the Gold Box games. I noticed on starting up Pool of Radiance and checking the instructions that the game only uses the numpad for movement. This is a problem for me, since I game in a home theater setup and use a wireless keyboard, sans numpad. Is there any way to rebind the keys, or am I just going to have to bite the bullet and pick up a wireless numpad?

DOSBox has a built-in keymapper. Does your keyboard not allow you to emulate numpad keys?

Normally even by default you shall have like on a laptop keyboard a bit hidden num-block. Most of the time to be activated with the function key (most of the time bottom left) + some green or yellowish sub-labeled keys.

But more convenient would be to remap the key as Gydion indicated. Shall work.

I play these games from a laptop that does not have a numpad. I know when I am navigating menu lists (like looking at character Items page) that I press 1 to move the selection down and 7 to move up. I still use the arrow keys for up/down/left/right in combat, but for diagonal movement, I simply press:
7 for up and left
9 for up and right
1 for down and left
3 for down and right

It isn't hard to adjust to. What I said there should cover all of it.
I used to play these with the old Atari joystick on a C64. I havent had any luck remapping my DosBox with my XBox 360 controller. Has anyone else been able to?

Back on the 64, I ended up just using the keyboard, as diagonal movement was so much easier (even without a number pad). You could map using something like XPadder or other such program, which has the advantage of being able to use your controller's triggers, etc. Maybe have the left thumbstick as movement, and the dpad as Pg Up and Pg Dn for menu selections. Have Y and B set to 'Y'es and 'N'o, start to 'E'ncamp etc.
