I've tried almost all of the Gold Box games from this collection, and I am not getting any sound. Is there something up with the installations? Perhaps it is my computer, but I have no sound issues with any other games I have tried, so if it is my computer, I have no idea how to fix it.

I've re-downloaded all the games and done a fresh install and just don't get any sound. At one point I did get some music.

I know the sound effects aren't exactly anything to write home about, but I'd rather have crappy sound than none at all.

Any ideas what I need to do to fix this?

Thanks for any help.

If you're on PC it could be due to DOSBox being incorrectly configured. There should be a DOSBox configuration tool installed along with the games, so you could try tinkering with that.

Thanks. Yes, it's a Windows 10 PC. I tried looking at the DOSBox settings but don't see anything obviously "wrong". I'll look it over some more. I've tried deleted the game CFG file, but that just makes the game not work at all instead of the game re-creating it as it does with non-GOG versions.

With reinstalling all games through GOG Galaxy and further testing, I get the startup music with the Krynn series of games, but no sound effects. For some of the later games, I do get sound effects, but not for the earlier games.

Thanks for the help.
With sound, it's usually the IRQ setting for the Sound Blaster. The setting is generally 5 or 7. Just switch it to what it's currently not set at. Some of the games you can just run a setup for to change it (I had to do this with a couple), rather than changing it in the config.

Thanks. I'll only tried to change this with Pool of Radiance, but it didn't make a difference. I'll try it for some of the others later.
Some of the earlier gold box games are so old they didn't have any decent PC sound card support. They used the PC speaker instead (basic beeps and boops). It's just because of the age of the games, PCs didn't have decent sound cards back then.

From memory, some of them work better with "Tandy" sound settings - that could be worth a try.

I think Secret of the Silver Blades (and games after that) had some Sound Blaster support, but Pool of Radiance and Curse of the Azure Bonds didn't.

Thanks. I was beginning to suspect this was the case. I built my own computer but I think I didn't bother hooking up the PC speaker connection. At least that would explain why I get some sound in some of them but not in others.

Sorry for the "wild goose chase" but I appreciate all the help.

DOSBox should send PC speaker sounds from the game to your soundcard, not the onboard PC speaker.
