Hi,

while playing EOB1 I feel 25 years younger :-)

There is one strange thing about Level 3.

There should be an area called "Museum" with "monster statues" which will attack you when you try to take an object right behind them.

This room (with two doors) is in the clue-book.pdf and it is on my hand drawn map (25 years old, Amiga version), too!

But it is not in the EOB1 game I bought this week at gog.com. Take a look at the attached map.

There ist a east-west going hallway right in the north of the "Museum" and a secound large room on the right of the "Museum" - but this hallway should be two "hallways" not one big hallway.

Strange thing. The whole museum is wiped out on my map.

Does anyone have any idea?

Thanks.

Museum should still be there, just started a run a couple days ago using only one human wizard and my... "party"... did encounter the room where monsters don't move until you attack or take items. Try an online map to locate the room if you haven't found it yet but it should be a rather easy room to find if you explore the level.

Hello,

No, it's still there, you're just getting lost. :-)

Take a look at my screenshot, playing the GOG version and using the all-seeing eye for illustration purposes.

On the other hand, playing the game with the fan-made patch, that updates the game to version 1.9 and fixes Ileria (among other things): The Museum is exactly at the same spot.

So my guess would be, that the game works as intended and confuses it's players. :-)

Wtf

I am also playing the GOG Version. Tried the game 3 times and never had the "Museum". I got lots of Maps and it's never there. Should i start with an other party? Got a Human/Male/Paladin, Dwarf/Male/Fighter, Half-Elf/Male/Mage and Gnome/Male/Cleric...

I don't understand the circumstances why this happens.

But why did you have a 6 Man/Women party ?

Where can i get that patch and is it compatible with the GOG Version?

No, the level layout is not dependent on your party configuration. Any party works just fine. Like I said, you're just getting lost. Fire up the all-seeing eye or draw your own map. Watch your compass and drop a few items on the ground, because occasionally the game will turn or teleport you around and that will mess up your drawing of a map. Or just follow the maps in the clue book, that comes with the game, when you purchase it here.

The patch is not compatible with the GOG version, but you can find a patched version of the game here: https://www.gog.com/forum/forgotten_realms_collection/unofficial_patch_19_for_eye_of_the_beholder

And when it comes to additional party members: You will find injured or imprisoned NPCs in the game, that will join your party. You also find several complete sets of bones and in the dungeon there is a dwarven encampment and they have a cleric, that can resurrect those NPCs, who will then join your party.

@stryx

First i want to thank you for everything. But im am really sure i am at the right place, where the "Museum" has to be. I played that game in 1990 on the Amiga 500 and played it a few times after that under Win ME, XP, 7 and now 10...

Last question. The Savegmae, if i use the 1.9 EOB Version ist usable in EOB2 ?

Sure.

PS: I tried a new run with a new party in a new game and the museum is where it's always been.

You are right. This seems to be a problem of the German version of the game.

I just downloaded and installed the German version, used the quick start party to venture there and took a screenshot. I should be standing in front of the wall, that says "museum" but the wall does not exist and the two doors, that lead in and out of the museum room, don't exist either. By the way: The quick start party sucks. As a healer they give you a fighter/cleric with a wisdom of 9. They must be kidding...

I tried the same with another old (non GOG) German version of the game and it's the same there. The museum probably still exists to the left of where I'm standing, but since that room no longer has any entrance, it is not accessible.

Level 3 maps of the english and german versions compared:
http://ase.zorbus.net/tmp/eob1_level3_eng_ger.png

ASE doesn't support the german version but I took the map file from the german release and loaded it into EOB1_Explorer (included with the newest version of ASE).

German version users could try this if you want the museum entrance:
- Download this file (it's the LEVEL3.MAZ file from the english version):
http://ase.zorbus.net/tmp/LEVEL3.zip
- Unzip the archive and copy the LEVEL3.MAZ to EOB1 folder. Make a backup of the original first.

But that changes just the map layout to the english version layout. Monsters, items and events are in LEVELx.INF files (german version seem to use LEVELx.ELO).

Thanks a lot guys. I am very happy with the english (working) version :-) .

I will play it in englisch, that would be ok for me.

Thank you for solving this issue!

I never thought of different level-versions (or call it a "bug") because of the language settings.

One thing I know for sure: I am not mad! :-) Not finding the museum made me almost crazy. ;-)
