After applying the widescreen fix the screen is now vertically stretched, opposed to originally horizontally. I am unable to post a link to the specific fix, but it is ThirteenAG's at Github. I am running a 1920x1080 16:9 display resolution. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have included two images. The first is the original horizontally stretched image. The second is the vertically stretched image after applying the patch. (Note, I have had to upload both images in 1280x720p, opposed to native 1920x1080p, due to GOG image file size limit. Aspect ratio is maintained at 16:9.)

Edit: I am now able to post the link to ThirteenAG's fix. Here: http://thirteenag.github.io/wfp#flatout

Update: The new patch is now working, and can be downloaded from the link above. Big up to ThirteenAG for sorting it out.

Use the widescreen fix for the Steam version.

Flatout 1 stopped working on W10 because MS disabled old Safedisc copy protection drivers. And since the copy protection in Flatout was not removed, only deactivated ... GOG.com just used the Steam crack for a quick solution.
Harzzach, thank you for your insight; it is greatly appreciated.

However, there is only one widescreen fix available on the site mentioned; which is the one I am using. On the site, it just states: 'Works with Steam version'.
I believe the patch only is corrected for 16:10 resolutions which might explain 16:9 resolutions look too thin.
If you're using the same patch I am then there should be a file in your Flatout folder called 'flatout_widescreen_fix.ini'

In that file find the line that reads something like : FOV_multiplier = 1.25

The number is probably going to be something between 1.0 and 1.5
Lower number = Wider; Higher number = Narrower.
Adjust it to find something that looks good to you.

Hope this helps.

Okay I have tested this out on my laptop, and have exactly the same issue. My laptop's resolution is 1366x768. Both are Windows 10 systems.

You may be correct, Strijkbout. However it does not mention anywhere on the site about it only being for 16:10 resolutions.

It is not the field of view that is the issue; it is the aspect ratio.

Thank you both for your input.

I just tried the newest patch and I can confirm that you're right, it doesn't work, at least not on the GOG version of Flatout.

The only thing I can suggest is that you get the older version of the patch, it's much smaller, only 51KB. The menus and intro screens are still stretched but it seems to work correctly in the races themselves.

Thank you, Falsegodz. I have scoured the internet for an older version of the patch to no avail. May I ask if you are able to send one over?
Sure, message me and I'll send it over.
Falsegodz supplied me with an older version of ThirteenAG's FlatOut widescreen fix. After testing, I can confirm this works. I could not find this version anywhere on the internets, so I thought I would post it up here. The version of FlatOut I tested this on is v2.1.0.7. Big thank you to Falsegodz.

(Older release of) ThirteenAG's FlatOut Widescreen Fix: https://www.mediafire.com/?bvmaokfom3mkifr

Modders Website (ThirteenAG): https://thirteenag.github.io/wfp#flatout (Don't download this version, as it doesn't work correctly with current GOG version. Download older version above.)

Installation: Copy content of archive to Flatout\Bin folder(where game executable is located). Change FOV_multiplier option inside Flatout_widescreen_fix.ini to increase/decrease FOV value if necessary.

I have been able to launch the game on Windows 10 and I'm currently running the game. I've had errors presumable relating to SafeDisc DRM, but the game launched after several retries.

That shouldn't be true, I've never heard that before. Do you have a source?

The reason I say this is that I had a similar experience with Rally Trophy, an earlier game by Bug Bear.
There is a widescreenpatch on NogripRacing which also made the cars look too thin in 1080p but when I select a 16:10 resolution it looks normal. Maybe this patch was made by the same guy.
I know it sounds counter to logic as it should have been too wide, but it's still how I experienced it.

OK, I guess this is the patch: http://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/532-rally-trophy-widescreen-fix/

It isn't made by the same guy, Rally Trophy widescreen patch would be listed on ThirteenAG's Github page.
Also, how do you "select" 16:10 aspect ratio in RT?
