Jademalo: My opinion however is that if you call everyone a hypocrite for a change of mind or a change of heart, then every single person is one. The whole landscape was different 5 years ago. Time and people change.

Phil has made comments against PC gamers in the past. The one that is still quoted is over 5 years old. I can't help but think that a lot of this now is sarcasm and flamebating moreso than his actual opinions. Look at the thread on steam - It gives me the impression that he's sitting back and watching the fireworks after lighting the fuse more than having a distinct opinion on the whole thing. The reply on his AMA about doing it purely for profit? That to me sounds like he was giving the answer the community wanted to hear, rather than giving the true answer. If he had said anything else, what would the backlash have been?
Deciding to cash in on a market segment that he previously disparaged (at best) and/or actively pissed off (at worst) is not a change of heart. At best, it's greed overcoming principle, which is almost as much of a turnoff as his original anti-PC attitude. It's annoying that people are giving him so much credit, as if the PC is starved for quality indie titles to the point where we should be grateful for any crumbs thrown our way (instead of being the premiere platform for indie titles).
If you watch that talk, it shows a lot about how passionate he is about his game, and that kind of passion is something that is seriously needed in this industry.
If he were truly passionate about the game, he wouldn't tarnish its image by actively pissing people off who would otherwise be interested in it.
You can still hate the artist while appreciating the art.
I'd certainly play it if it were free, but I'll pass on buying it. I'm not going to enable an "artist" that rubs me the wrong way to continue his abrasive behavior.

I'm not gonna support that guy.
The game may be good, but he's too much of a douche and insulted people way too much, and don't forget he refused to patch a gamebreaking bug because Microsoft was asking "too much money for it" (dude, it was your choice to NOT release on PC - which were apparently only good for spreadsheets - and release only for console. I hope that at least he refunded those customers), and since there are many other good indie games out there, I'm gonna support his.

I bought it here. I couldn't care less about a dev's personal problems. Does he make great games? That's all I need to know.

Someone on another site said we are all douches. Why is he being singled out? I agree wholeheartedly. We all do self-serving things every day and look down at other people and refuse to help, steal little things from work, honk at each other in traffic, cut in line, etc. He is just us - look in the mirror. He is the side of us that wants to tell everyone else to f*** off, but we are to proper to do it. We just think it.

If you looked at the people that make the products you use every day - they are probably way bigger asshats than this Phil Fish guy.

When it comes to an $8.00 game - there is no such thing as the principle of the thing. Save that for the important things in life please.

Thing is, there's a difference between what we say as people, and what we say as "professionals".

Much like that Microsoft guy who said that always online was a good thing and then got fired. He didn't act professionally.

You can't just put that kind of behavior on the same level as private manners.

Perhaps, but there’s a fuzzy line between “personal” and “professional” and depending upon the profession (and maybe the personality) the line might not even exist –especially amongst them creative types.

Sorry, but 5 years after his statement he did change his mind. That is normal. A lot of things happend. Maybe he will like the PC now more after he did see the sales and how easy it is to patch them.

It is nice that the game will now be on the PC.

The question you should ask: Do I like the game so much and do I expect that I will get a good game and enough patches and contect that I'm willing to pay the 9 bucks for this game. If you don't like it, than you can always wait for the release and the review and than buy the game.

What?

It sounds to me like your complaint is actually with Microsoft. They charge $40,000 for every patch after the second. I don't know about you, but that's more than I make in a year. And honesty, it may be more than he can expect to make in profits from this game after the first 6 months, so it's a tall order. To be clear, that means you're still welcome to not buy the game, he'd honestly prefer it that way. Because then he simply won't make as much money, but if he patches the game, the whole 7 year endeavor could very well lose money. What would you want in that situation?

And as far as there being plenty of good indie games out there, you've got no argument from me. Honestly, there are so many good free to play games out there you should never need to buy a game again. I just don't see why people get so worked up about it all.

He knew how xbox live works before releasing there. Or should have.
In any case, not a problem of his customers. They paid for a game and they're entitled to a working game (or a full refund), period.

The XBLA version does work, though. It might corrupt your save, which is a problem, but it happens rarely. You can't say the game is broken, though.

This is an example of a tiny bit of misinformation severely changing the meaning.

There was a 1% chance to corrupt a save going from the release version of the game to Patch 1. Any saves made after that, or played after that, are 100% immune to the corruption bug.

Perhaps he's a marketing genius? All this commotion has at least stirred some attention.

But I digress; I don't really care about all the shenanigans surrounding him. He's developed a game that I want to purchase and play, and he's making money in the process.

Good for him! Imagine making a living out of your passion, not bad.
