korell: That's why I listed the steps of what the script does. :)

Stahlin: Hi, my problem is that I cannot run the script as admin. If I do the game just does not start. If I do it without admin rights the game starts but it doesn't help.
Try disabling the devices manually then, rather than by running the script. If it works when you do it manually then it may be that you may need to adjust something in the script.
This doesnt help. For some reason my game is lagging severely when I can run other versions flawlessly. Anyone got any idea on what could be causing the severe FPS drop?
I running GOG copy flawlessly, Steam one could crash because of client, pirated one (or legal but with no-cd crack) has problems with music, performance and could freeze/crash the game from time to time and retail the same problems as cracked one + low fps on open areas with too much corpses and explosions where none of that is present in GOG version.

But you can help yourself with disabling volumetric lights, shadows, FSSA, ambient occlusion, soft shadows and enabling dx8 shaders. Enabling restart renderer between levels can improve performance and prevent corrupting saves or freeze (lag) crash but also cause black screen for seconds every autosave and load levels slower. Note that some levels are less than desirable optimized so you always run lower than usual fps.

I Just started the game and was suffering with extremely low fps, and even setting the graphics settings to the lowest and running that test map in the options made no difference, but I fixed it really simply.

Seeing on here that it can be to do with logitech mice etc, I happened to turn my wireless keyboard off while the test map was running (my logitech keyboard has an on/off switch on it) and it instantly went normal, even at max settings!

Crazy, I can't believe it was my keyboard causing such pathetic performance, I've never come across that before.
I had a brand new Logitech mouse when I played this game recently. The performance were abysmal. So I bought yet a new mouse and the performance went sky high. The new mouse, while not being a Logitech is superb as well. So fuck Logitech.

This isn't Logitech's fault. How could they predict a game from 2005 wouldn't comply with their new hardware?

If anything, this is Monolith's fault for failing to care enough to patch it.

Are you dumb, or just trolling?

May I ask the same for you?

It's not the game developers job to keep other companies software updated.

And I disagree in this case, because it only affects F.E.A.R. and Condemned, both Monolith games, both using the Lithtech Jupiter EX engine. It could probably be fixed by them in less than 10 minutes but they refuse and blame Logitech.

Logitech blames Monolith and I tend to agree with them in this case, because how were they supposed to know their new hardware/software would cause strange FPS drops in two older titles?

I'm not going to argue over this however, it's just such a shame a great game like FEAR has such an annoying issue.

PedroUK: Thanks for the mention of the PC Wiki. I thought I'd include a direct link to the page of the guy who actually did Monoliths job for them:

Note: the URLs in that blog post are not working anymore (since Google Code has been closed down). Based on that post, I've written my own blog post here: http://denilson.sa.nom.br/blog/2015-08-19/devcon-exe-and-fear-games/
I've been trying to find a guide to fix the bad FPS that has been updated for Windows 10 (which has changed how HID-compliant devices are displayed in Device Manager - see attached image). Had zero luck finding one.

That screenshot you provided looks no different to how it works on mine (on Vista). Or how it appears in the screenshot I posted when I gave the info from the PC Gaming Wiki. Have you tried the script to see if it works?

Mine doesn't show anything that says "HID-compliant device" like OP's screenshot. I also don't see a screenshot from you in this thread (though I've probably overlooked it).

For the record, I have a G502 mouse and a G910 keyboard.

I'm referring to the screenshot posted back in February by philscomputerlab to which I replied ( http://i.imgur.com/5ZOraNP.png ) which also doesn't list "HID-compliant device". It lists a number of devices, some called "HID-compliant consumer control device" and one called "HID-compliant vendor-defined device". Whilst your screenshot has two of the former and 4 of the latter. So I'm seeing no difference with how the Device Manager in Windows 10 works as per your screenshot, as those HID-compliant devices can be listed as consumer control or vendor-defined or just HID-compliant, it probably depends on how the device refers to itself.

If you want to find the Logitech (vendor ID 046) devices, you'll have to double-click each one in turn to bring up the device properties, then look at the details tab under Hardware Ids. This would take quite some time to do manually, hence the reason for the script.

I have a G510s keyboard on my computer, and for me in the Device Manager I have (with vendor IDs of 046):

1x HID-compliant mouse
2x HID Keyboard Device entries
2x USB Human Interface Device entries
1x Logitech Gaming Virtual Keyboard
1x Logitech Gaming Virtual Mouse
1x HID-compliant device
1x HID-compliant consumer control device

Clearly the Logitech Gaming Software installed drivers for various devices which is why I have mouse entries even though I have no Logitech mouse.

So yes, either go through all of your devices listed in Device Manager, or use the script to disable the vendor ID 046 ones before running the game.
