Don't turn your back on them then. :P

Stealth approach works the best for me (in most cases). Hide, crawl, recon with binoculars (remember it has a directional microphone) and try to "mark" all enemies, try to flank them and eliminate one by one (aim for the head). MP5 is your best friend. >:] It's a bit different with trigens though.
Wait 'til you get to the last part of the game...

I still have nightmares about that last level.

Seriously, what were Crytek thinking? And how did they fail to learn a single lesson from that clusterf**k when it came to making Crysis?

I got all the way through to that last building on Normal. And then gave up and restarted on Easy just so I could play through to the end. Was actually a decent challenge on Easy and it made that last bit winnable for me.

Fun game.
I managed it on normal, but bloody hell it took ages to get right and I ended up having to exploit AI/engine bugs.

A shame, because it was really good fun until then.
well im stuck at the end part with the steam valves that needs to be shut down.
Well, I just finished FC1 (on normal difficulty) - WHOOO! :) Fantastic game really, very satisfying.

Like others mention, the beginning (at least) of the last level has a sudden difficulty spike! :D I must have died in like 5 seconds and reloaded that about 20 times, before remembering there was a "lean left/right" key - that was the key! Did it the first time once I started leaning from behind cover. After that first room, did not have half as much trouble going right through to the end, though. (Of course, I was using the console to quicksave instead of relying on checkpoints)

So @ Calcipher, try leaning and shooting them in the head. They might not see you to shoot back.

I guess now I'll grab FC2. Hopefully that does not have sudden difficulty spikes as well(?)

It's a very different game - much more open world. Don't remember any spikes in difficulty in it; it was challenging, but enjoyable. If you're after more of Far Cry, Crysis 1 is probably the closest out there to it, although it's not available on GoG.

Damn and a half. Easy I chose; like a walk on the beach the game told me. Hah! Can't really see myself coming through this game given how hard it is in mission 6 or so - wherever we run into those nasty mutants first. Full health and full armour, one chump attacks me and it's bye bye Johnny. I'll keep trying though. It has a great atmosphere.

I found that sound plays a big part in dealing with the mutants. You'll hear them before you see them, and a decent set of headphones will help you determine which direction they're coming from.

Gotta tell you, I'm sick to death of those superhuman mutants. One swipe and all your health and armour is gone. Ridiculous. Unless I shoot them in the head on the first time of asking, they jump on me and I'm dead one second later. No exceptions. The first 4-5 missions were fun, but not this. Might as well have played with 1 health.

It's on Easy for crying out loud!

Well, yeah, but... I dunno. Are you playing in a run-and-gun style, or more deliberately with scouting and planning?

And use the daylights out of those binocular things to help you find and fix the mutants. Creep-mode, too, to keep your noise signature down. I remember creeping and crawling around for most of the game. ; )

I'm never running around gunning stuff. I'm crouching or crawling around in the bushes, trying to be as stealthy as possible, and using the binoculars as often as I can. Unfortunately they rarely pick up anything unless I get decent vision on enemies from higher ground, so often they don't do much. Based on advice I've read I'm supposed to be doing the right things, but it just isn't working well. Unless enemies are isolated and I can take them down with sniper or silent MP5 fire, they instantly know where I am and will sooner or later find me. Or they'll just snipe me in the head (with zero showing on the bottom-left bar) from God knows where.

Then you have the mutants that will one-hit kill me. They simply feel mighty overpowered, and I've yet to meet the really tough guys yet. The mercs are more manageable and fun (the first 5 missions were great), but it's the mutants that mostly do me. Well, the impossible sniper fire too. Enemies seem to be omniscient. I'm using the unofficial 1.42 patch too, which I think is supposed to remove some of that, but it's still pretty absurd. Had I been running around gunning into the air it is one thing, but crawling on my belly in the bushes?

Sorry to rant about this, but I really wanted to get into this game. Reading around a bit I'm far from the only one with similar opinions, though most say it's about the last third that gets ridiculously hard. I don't even want to think about how tough that must be when I'm struggling now.
Haha I remember the first time I beat this game on Hard Mode. Always keep a shotgun for the trigens, sometimes you even can shoot them in mid-air like skeet. and the p90 is great when all the enemies are aggroed, it has minimal recoil and a high cyclic rate. However, nothing beats sneaking up to a merc indoors and putting a .50 cal round in his face.

I love not having to swap out 5 different cds to install this awesome game, can't wait for Gog.com far cry 3, damn "program files (x86)" save file location made me lose my ziggy's mod savegame, i only backed up "users" folder lol.
