So I bought the Far Cry 1 + 2 bundle and after installing and enjoying Far Cry 1, I wanted to revisit Far Cry 2 on PC. So today I tried installing Far Cry 2 several times and kept running into the same problems:

Problem no. 1: Even after I download both the game and the starter EXE files, it says on the starter exe (in red font at the bottom of the window) that I have not downloaded all the necessary files and the game won't install properly. Also, I noticed that GOG mentioned that Far Cry 2 requires 3.3 GB of hard drive space, while the game files themselves were only around 2.5 GB in size. Is there something I'm missing? How is it that I haven't got all the necessary files when I've downloaded the only two listed?

Problem no. 2: When I open the starter exe and select "install", it doesn't install, but rather takes me to my downloads tab, which is something that I've never encountered before. Why would a game install in my downloads? It makes no sense. *sigh* Maybe it's just too late at night or maybe I'm just having a bad day but I just can't figure this shit out.

I figured I'd ask for help since it seems like it would be really easy for one of you guys to walk me through this. So...pretty please?

You have to put both files (.exe and .bin) in the same directory avoiding to rename them, then you can run the executable file to install the game.

I did not install it yet so am not sure but maybe the game is packed and then when install it unpacks some assets + game saves take space. Things like that lead to games taking up more space on the hard drive.

Are your installation files undamaged? If not, you will need to redownload the broken file(s).

UPDATE: I never managed to figure out how to install FC 2 on my desktop PC because I gave up after trying briefly over three years ago, and said PC broke down a few months ago.

However, I bought a laptop a while ago and am interested in trying to install the game again. I haven't tried to install my GOG version of Far Cry 2 on it yet because I've decided that I'm going to just buy a physical copy instead. The reason being is because I don't like the 30 FPS cap that the GOG version forces since that kinda ruins the incentive to play the PC version of the game. Plus, my new laptop isn't even all that powerful anyway, and the built-in display only has a refresh rate of 60 hz anyways, so I doubt I will be exceeding the FPS limit to trigger that "bouncing NPC" glitch I've heard so much about. On top of that, the physical version is DRM with the latest official patch installed anyways, so I definitely want to try that version instead first.

Unless someone on here can tell an easy way to disable the 30 FPS cap on the GOG version, I'm going to go with the retail copy instead.

What exactly you do? GOG rovide two differ build and way to install - offline GOG build and GOG Galaxy (usually anyway they all DRM-free, with some exception).

For any client-baed download- always do at least two verifying process in a row. GOG Galaxy now do not report results of checking files and always redownload something. It more important to verify it twice in a row.

For offline installer - just redownload it. Make sure installer have digital signature, and do not un-ckeck checkbox about installation files integrity check.

If troubles happened again - make a screenshot to be clear at what moment and which one build.

Huh, I could have sworn that the GOG version had a 30 FPS cap in the past. At least, that's what I remember reading.

I just checked the PC gaming wiki and you seem to be right; there was no mention of the GOG release having an FPS cap. Additionally, it stated that 60 FPS shouldn't cause the glitch to appear; only FPS higher than 90 or so will trigger it.

This is EXCELLENT news. Now I don't have to buy another version of FC2. Thank you for correcting me. Now that I don't have to worry about any FPS cap, I've decided that I'm going to try to install my GOG copy again, this time on my new machine, and see if I have any luck. I'm not sure what went wrong last time I tried to install it, but I'll give it another shot.

There is still multiple bugs possible, as PCGW say.
Try d3d10+reshade+ one ini tweak (AlphaToCoverage to 0)
or d3d9 render

Ofc, as you understand, this is not mentioning possible problems with too low\high FPS. Find proper maximum and way to limit it.
