Sorry if this seems like a dumb question. But a long time back I heard that Far Cry 2 was abundant with glitches, even game breaking ones. I know that the GOG version has all of the official patches, but do they actually take care of the glitch problems?

Also, as soon as I build my new gaming rig I plan to get Far Cry 3 off of Steam (Would rather get it on GOG, but it's not available unfortunately). Does FC2 offer anything that 3 doesn't? I'm interested in it mainly for the African setting, but is that all that's different?

Other than that, the game runs fine. The AI will exhibit weird behaviour (even, er... let's call that 'magical suicide') with DX10 enabled, but those two issues are pretty much everything I can think of.

Yes, I for one think Far Cry 2 is well worth the money. There are no major glitches to speak of. I have played the game all the way through and enjoyed it thoroughly. There is one instance in the game that the office of the APR won't open because I needed to complete a buddy mission, but other than that, I experienced no technical problems. Make sure you have an up to date graphics card because if you have an older one, like the previous ATI card I had on my old computer, the game may crash after the first driving session is over. You'll get a request from the game to update it. I recommend you to follow it if your video card is older than the ones available around 2008.

fc2 imo is a rather good game, nothing great but nothing terribly wrong either with the exception of one thing - constantly respawning enemies. you can clear the area, complete all quests in there and next day bam the place is filled with mobs again

I bought Far Cry 1 & 2 after purchasing FC3 and I don't regret it. These games are not bad at all with their open worlds and their give you an idea how far the series has progressed graphically and technically. For classic series like Far Cry, GTA, Assassin's Creed, Need for Speed , Crysis it's always worth going back in time. You often find hidden gems and you get to taste a little bit of gaming history.

The Far Cry games share very little in common besides the name and being first person shooters. Their settings, stories, controls, and gameplay (mission objectives, action vs strategy, etc) are all different.

Yes, definitely. I was reluctant at first, too:
I read/heard the engine should be not as good, the fire wouldn't be that convincing and the constant respawning should be a pain in the ass.

After having played it for weeks I can say:

It's awesome! It really delivers. The atmosphere is outstanding. The respawning even adds a bit to it (because you're constantly feeling unsafe), although it is sometimes strange that when you just cleared a patch and you return minutes later everyone is back again - as long as you covered a certain distance. If you linger around nothing happens.

The fire is pretty good, among the best I've seen so far. Of course it goes out after some time, I guess you simply can't have it burn forever and cover great distances.

The engine actually rocks. The view distance is good, the only bad thing is that there are occasionally invisible walls on rocks or such. Well, you're not supposed to go there, but still.

I feel that Far Cry 2 appeals to a certain type of person. I for one love it. It's one of my favorite games and I would definitely recommend it. The thing Far Cry 2 excels at is creating an environment that's cynical and largely indifferent to heroism or "good vs. evil" type of shit. You do jobs for various factions, you get paid, then you upgrade your gear. I think Far Cry 2 appeals more to people who notice little details and care more about the journey itself than the end result. Far Cry 3 feels more "complete", there are things to collect, a story with a hero and a villain, but FC3 always came across as childish to me especially with it's lame white savior story

Seems like everyone says get that Dylan's mod. I know everyone has different opinions and that's cool. But to me Dylans is just an easy-mode mod.

For myself, I tried it - played on the hardest difficulty, and it made the game way too easy. Wasn't "more realistic", just "way more easy".

I'm not even sure I'd class FC2 as a game at all. It's more of a desperately dull driving simulator that just happens to feature people shooting at you. It runs perfectly. It looks beautiful. This I will admit. The devs forgot something though: the game.

I think it's a great game. Getting set to play it like my 4th time here in the near future.

Alas not everyone likes the same things. Way of the world.. The "sedan simulator" shit is just cheap shots. Another common cheap shot is the "it's only dull looking brown desert"; which is far from truth. It's got forests, mountains, huge waterfalls, navigable rivers & lakes, etc.

Don't think you can skip the tutorial. I've tried more than once. But it doesn't take that long to complete. I've not run into any bugs with it tho. And it's never taken very long to complete it anyhow. After it, the entire "1st half" map opens up for free-form exploration and finding missions.

The only bug I've seen (from someone else's save - never run into it myself - but it does exist) is a game-breaker. But you don't run into until the "2nd half" of the game - if it's going to hit. And then, as long as you keep at least once save from the "1st half" (like a one-last-save-before-go-to-2nd-half), you can probably recover from it.

I guess it's been awhile since I've been there, but I don't recall the "arms dealers" ever being closed (for the night or anytime). BUT you may be doing it wrong. You don't buy your better weapon from the person in the shack - you sit at the computer in there and buy it "online" (and then go pick it up in the small building next door). The person there is only there to give missions for better weapons (that you then buy from that computer, and then pick up next door) - and yes - there are various times and conditions for when he is there.

Try to use that PC to buy that better weapon (that you don't need).. Or not.. :)

Just started a new game, and played up to this point.

In your quest log the wording is:

"Use the weapons shop computer to buy new weapons."

Thx for the reply. You are propably right, I´ll try that later. Actually the main reason for quitting like i mentioned above was "you should talk to both of your buddies before you leave" thing.

Every time I've played, including this time, that 'quest' didn't even become a thing until after I had purchased the gun.

I just tried - no matter what or how long I waited, the bar remained empty until after I both purchased and then picked up the weapon. After both those actions, that's when the quest updated to go to the bar, which was then populated.

It seems odd that your game has you going to do that before completing the weapon purchase and pickup.
