When I move to the edge of the screen to scroll I instantly teleport across the map, the ai's turns blaze by in a quarter of a second. Can I slow this down?

You can lower CPU cycles in DOSBOX.

See here. (Post 10 as well)

It slows other things as well including your turns so do some experiments to find the perfect balance for you.

There is also a other way,

There is a dosbox configurator supplied with the program. Under the tab enhanced settings you can adjust the sensitivity of the mouse and there are some other options available

60% is good enough for me ;) standard is 100

Neat.
That's sure easier way to solve that.

Yea but to be honest , after changing the dos box cycles the general play experience did improve. Edit the dosbox_fg.con file with notepad for example..
search for this line : ( tab, Edit -- command find )

core=autocputype=autocycles=autocycleup=1000cycledown=1000

and change it to

core=autocputype=autocycles=23500cycleup=1000cycledown=1000

I do like some speed so, the advice from the other post to change it to 15500 or 20000 was to a bit slow for me
