Seriously after passing through the first 3 towns (village klamath den) I havent found anything or anyone interesting. Not much lore to read and uncreative/boring level design. Add a retarded 1000 caps req to block you in the MQ aka the only half interesting thing going on so far while the number of local quests are super limited (I managed to get to 1k with fred's money) You pretty much have to do each side quest in all 3 town to get 1k plus you gotta gear up cause the early game is so tough. I prefer a time limit than that. Even when you do free up Vic you cant even talk to him about your quest he just directs you to another place. Game keeps kicking you in the nuts like when your aunt takes 3 of your healing powders for a tiny upgrade...

Also the F1 soundtrack is getting overused a bit. As someone who values music over graphics this game is disappointing

Edit: Now I just reached Modoc and the music is pretty good. I hope the rest is better than before.

Fallout 1 is like my favourite PC game ever and it was already 20 years old when i played it. So far I would rate F3 and possibly NV over this.

I think Fallout 1 is a masterpiece. In my opinion, the writing in Fallout 2 is sometimes juvenile and shallow, and the areas didn't seem especially well designed. There are also way too many pop culture references, which gets tedious after a while. Some of the NPCs were pretty funny, though. In my opinion, the tribal sidekick, Sulik, was the funniest. The game is also a bit more balanced than Fallout 1, and you'll find the oddball skills have more utility. There are a few places where you have to choose sides, giving you a nice incentive for replaying the game. But I think Fallout 1 was the best in the series.
Of course F1 is the best, but I would rate F3 second and cannot understand people hating on it or ranking it below F2.

I found the game less balanced too especially with the AP ammo and the unfair random encounters, the crit miss, etc..

So! You've played old unpatched version of the game.

You should use Killap's Unofficial Patch:
http://www.killap.net/

It will fix a lot of bugs including AP ammo.

IMHO or I should say I like Fallout 2 more than Fo1 (which is great BTW). And Fo3 as fallout game is terribly bad. It's barely mediocre as some postapocalyptic shooter/action game if one plays it as "not-Fallout" (I did 3 or 4 times).

I did use killap's patch and its still broken. I do think that F3 is a good fallout game on most aspects except the combat, it also beats F1 on many aspects.

Even without the bugs I cant like this game, with an average of 1 relevant NPC per area the world couldnt feel more dull

Not really, no. There are other ways to get the money. Even in Klamath you can have more. (Or, you can just blast them).

The soundtrack is pretty much the same, yes. I think there's only 2-3 new themes.
Blast them with your spear? Or use a pipe gun vs 10 slavers?

I have to suppose, you just playing lazy, not exploring around enough.

It's some time since I played, but from what I remember you surely should have 10mm pistol by then, and also remember little difficulties to arm Vic with hunter's rifle immediately as I freed him.

As to taking on the slavers early, I have read at least a half a dozen different ways. Some obvious, like sniping from certain window. Some bordering with exploits or likely to involve endless save-summing like stealing all their weapons first. Some incredibly creative, but unlikely to work, like, trailing the church fight all the way up, so you can have expendable allies and in a three-way fight. I myself once went in with killer girl of very special design (bent to f--k everyone she possibly could), offered sex, then attacked yielding only a knife, and Sulik with a hammer come in just the right moment. That was crazy, but great fun; I can't recommend to try it though.

Imho, this is one game over all others where you do every last side mission you stumble upon; the whole thing could even be described as a bit loose colection of side missions none of it is mandatory (except the short final sequence), basically a sanbox you have to find your own fun. Heh, in what might be my first play, I tried to enter Vault City with false papers, failed, a fight broke out. Without knowledge I could resolve hostilities just by moving out of the map, I methodically slaughtered every last person in the whole thing. Certain that I have broken my game I went away to explore with zero care about anything and was surprised to be able to reach successful ending. If that doesn't make this game great, I don't know what would.

So basically exploit the game? Even with a 10mm and 100% crit rate you would die in 1-2 turns if you dont exploit.

Sure you do every single side quests because the game offers nothing else to do.

If you have more fun in wiping a town than interacting with it there is a problem.

I can't tell what you mean. Either you're being ambushed by 10 slavers, (run away), or you're wanting to kill the neutral slavers, (good luck, come back later).

Gecko hides are probably the #1 way to earn money early. Or you might have the luck of say, an encounter where two groups are fighting each other. Wait for someone to die, swipe their stuff, and get out of there.

You're going to be strained for money for quite awhile. Don't buy (or use) a lot of ammo. Very rarely use (but do sell) stimpaks. And so forth.

Yeah come back later after grinding caps or equipment, beacuse thats how you earn stuff, by grinding.

Most geckos didnt drop any hide for me.

100% of geckos should drop pelts, if you learned how to skin them.

And no, I'm not talking about grinding. I'm talking about coming back after naturally going through more of the game. There's not really even an urgent need to kill those guys. My suggestion is to put that on hold.

No you wouldn't. Unless you start with Metzger.
I play on ironman, and generally return to bring justice to slavers later, but it's doable on first visit as well. Moderate difficulty for a decent gunslinger.

So if you don't want to do side quests, don't want to scrounge money, don't want to look for a creative way to win a battle, don't want to actually search for loot... then yeah, maybe this game isn't for you.

Must be for some super special people
Like you, I did not enjoy that much playing Fallout 2 even though I always loved Fallout 1. The beginning of F2 is very slow and it takes a while before one can get a decent gun. And random encounters can be brutal. This easily leads to high level of frustrations among players who try F2 for the first time.

I think the game picks up once you reach Vault City. But the first time I played it, I was already frustrated by the time I reached Vault City so that I did not enjoy the rest that much. However, the second time I played, I really really liked it. Again, the beginning was very slow but then the middle part is fantastic.

Still, to me F1>F2. Somehow, F1 feels just more to the point, more post-apocalyptic, and more depressing.
