I'm just wondering about everyones opinion because I nearly down downloading Fallout 2 and I want to know about all the different play styles from the usualy, sniper builds which I'm not doing.
Bloody Mess trait (perk?), Enclave armour or Power Armor, and the Gatling Laser...
Basically a style that favours Big Guns, some Intelligence because the Power and Enclave Armours increase strength while worn(IIRC), and a good Speech skill to get the better lines of dialogue...

Yeah from I've read from the The Nearly Ultimate Walkthrought/Guide(is that right?) yeah you're pretty much right. I'm going basically with finess and small frame as traits with first aid, doctor, and small guns skill. Basically I'm a medic by any means and I'm going to use mostly shotguns maybe smgs mostly, since I like upclose combat, alos Im going NPCless and carless to givem e that average everyday survival of a lone wanderer feel to it.
Play however you want, just keep in mind the trait that lets you have more SPECIAL points in the beginning and less skill, is a keeper. I think its called Gifted or something.
What? No, I not asking how I should I play but more like how everyone else play because I've always been curious about how others play and why really, heck half the time I just go around doing things NOT suggested (like not getting gifted, using npcs and cars, and stuff like that) so I can see form myself. wow that was a lot well anyways I'm just curios about how others play.
Well, i tried to play FO1 as a "peaceful scientist" (a weakling, so to say) , boosting intelligence, speech, repairs, barter, doctor... and i used only pistols. but i found the game a bit unbalanced, since the repair and science skills are of very limited use, and pistols are too weak in late-game whith combat-difficulty set to "hard"... yes, you can try to outrun and outsneak most of the combats, but.. no, i won´t do this kind of playstyle again, it gets a little bit too frustrating for my liking.
With FO2, i will create a more balanced character, try to do only good things to raise my karma, so intelligence, charisma and speech are important (i think), but i will also spend a good amount of points on heavy / laser-guns to keep me prepared for late-game monsters.

Try this. You will absolutely love it.
Okay I'll try it eventually but don't have the time.
For myself, I like to play a smooth-talking sniper character. Max out small guns and speech, try to get some gauss weapons, and the only foes in the game that can really threaten you are the dudes with really heavy armor (if you don't critically hit them in the eyes...).

MrWilli: I'm just wondering about everyones opinion because I nearly down downloading Fallout 2 and I want to know about all the different play styles from the usualy, sniper builds which I'm not doing.

I always find myself creating the same character when playing Fallout 1/2:
STR: 5
PER: 8
END: 2
CHR: 3
INT: 9
AGI: 8
LCK: 9
or something very close to it. Traits are usually Finesse and Gifted.
TAGs include Small Guns, Lockpicking/Speech/Science
usually picking up Big Guns as the fourth TAG with the perk.
General summary of the character would be a genius sniper with huge chances for criticals. Once getting More Criticals perk and Better Criticals, he is a death dealing machine from a mile away. Bonus Rate of Fire helps down the line..
Like to keep strength below 6 so Power Armor actually has a good strength boost to it.
Sometimes sprinkle in an INT 2/3 character for the lulz.

My 1st and only character so far in Fallout. I enjoyed melee combat and I think that I will play the same kind of character in Fallout 2.

I have had the most fun with a hand to hand tank.
High endurance and high enough stats to take Slayer.
I take all the toughness feats, the HtH feats and Slayer at the end
bonus move is a must to chase down all of those fleeing thugs :P
I love waltzing into the middle of a huge pack of bad guys and sending them flying with punches and kicks
