Sufyan: I felt physical pain as I read a few comments by people asking if Fallout 1 and 2 will work on Xbox One and PS4.
avatar
Fenixp: *scratches head*
So um....

What's wrong with that request? They're powerful enough to emulate older PC. And older Fallout games feature turn-based combat, it's not like they'd particularily difficult to control with a stick
Because they weren't requests, they were straight questions based on absolutely no indication that the answer could be anything other than 'no'. It's like saying "His neck was pulverised between the 4th and 7th vertebrae" and the listener goes "Damn, but he is going to be ok, right?". You know what, I don't even want to go on, you and me just never seem to have the same idea about this world anyhow.

Somewhere, someone is wondering why Bethesda didn't click the button in Unity that makes the games work on the latest generation consoles. A whole bunch, I'm sure.

almabrds: Maybe he reacted like this because the controls would be bad.
I've played fallout 2 using gamepad one time, using a program I found in Google (joy2key, I think).
I quickly returned to the mouse!
Software emulating a pad never sat right with me, they always felt weird to use. Clearly, some changes would need to be done to the control scheme. But I doubt it's undoable, question is how many resources they would you need to invest and how much of that would return to them.

Yeah, entitlement is always strong with the internet. I'd definitely cheer for Bethesda if they found a way for console users to enjoy my favourite game of all time - but if it's just a bunch of idiots going "No console release no buy lol" I can definitely see how that would be irritating.

Uh... Okay?

YaTEdiGo: Why I do not "own" the new re-lease? what a mess is this?
avatar
vv221: If you bought the Fallout before the re-release you already own them ;)

Updated installers are:
setup_fallout_2.1.0.18.exe
setup_fallout2_2.1.0.17.exe
setup_fallout_tactics_2.1.0.12.exe

They come with the HD patches pre-installed to add support for higher resolutions than the base games.
So if we own the "old" release, we got the HD patches includes in the new installers?
The only reason why they put "classic" was to make it so people don't automatically get arena and daggerfall for free, since the whole point of this marketning sceme is to get people to buy the games. And handing out the freebies to people who already own some of the games doesn't make them any money.

You seem to have misunderstood me, I wasn't asking for gog to give me them, I was stating the reason they changed it to classic was to differentiate it from the version that would grant you those games. Gog doesn't have to give me shareware, I don't care about that but it's clear they want it to be a bonus if you buy their newly licensed games.

Which I think it's kind of ehhhhh since it's shareware but whatever that's a different topic.

What I'm pointing out is that that argument doesn't make much sense, given the fact finding free versions of those games with an installer takes grand total of 10 seconds. So unless GOG considers us all idiots, that would not be the reason. The actual reason as pointed out by GOG employee somewhere is actually the exact opposite - Fallout Classic contains more free goodies that you can't quite get anywhere else legally, and it contains a Mac version, all of these would be stripped if GOG converted them to the Bethesda's release. I think they said somewhere they're woking on the Mac version and re-including the goodies, but didn't want to postpone the release because of it. Don't get me wrong tho, it would be nice to have GOG packaged installers of those games.

Edit: Hmm, they're not included as bonuses, they're separate offering when you buy the game. I wonder what would happen if you tried to write GOG support. In fact, I'm going to attempt doing that right now. TO THE SUPPORTMOBILE! Tudududududududu GOGman

Edit2: Done. I'll inform you once I receive a reply.

All right, I asked whether I would be elligible to a free copy of GOG packaged Arena and Daggerfall since I bought the old version of Fallout games. The reply follows:

"Hello,
Due to legal reasons, the Fallout games had to be re-released separately from the old, initial GOG releases from 2008. As a result, they should be considered as separate products. I appreciate your understanding, and apologize for any inconvenience caused."

That's exactly what I was saying, I brought it up as the only reason they added "classic".
Will the fallout mini Nuke anthology have the new versions? Or the classic versions?

I bought the mini Nuke but unsure which version of the fallout 1 2 and tactics they contain.

Thanks

almabrds: Nah, I don't think it's that, they're Gabe's slaves.
They'll release Fallout Anthology in september, and guess what, Steam is required to play the games.
They listed the price on one of the comments, $49.99. So you're basically playing $50 for a plastic toy nuke with a bunch of games you can get for a grand total of $20 every Steam sale. If you buy that you're mental.

I'm not going to waste money.
I've Fallout trilogy, since Interplay decided to release them in GOG (which was in 2008, IIRC), and Fallout 3 GOTY + New Vegas Ultimate Edition in Steam.

Actually it was because new editions have virtually no "included goodies" while classic editions do :)

Apart from that, both versions are identical as far as installers are concerned...
