I really liked fallout tactics and was wondering if there was anywhere where the original fallout 3-van buren mods might be. Has anyone modded this game to the point where i can enjoy a similar experience to fallout tactics. Tactics was my favorite of the series as i found the combat in the first 2 to be way to tedious and boring. Any info on this would be great.
I would bet you dollars to donuts the story of Fallout: Van Buren would run at a similar pace to Fallouts 1 and 2 if such a mod existed. As it was intended to be part of the canon of F1 and F2, it could be expected to be otherwise similar.
As I understand it, your best bet is to try out Fallout: New Vegas. I hear a lot of old Van Buren fanboys liked it, and it should have the faster pace of Fallout 3 without its narrative problems.

Sadly, I wouldn't know. I'm cashless.

Oh i dont play the crappy firstperson shooter fallouts, i only play the roleplaying games.
I can't stand Fallout 3, and while I'm not a fan of the FPS action-game element, I find Fallout: New Vegas pretty fun and playable by comparison.

One of Fallout 3's biggest problems is that it appears to have been written by 12-year-olds. Since Bethesda didn't develop FNV, that problem is largely fixed. The story, the dialogue, the world itself, is all much more intelligently done in FNV than it is in F3.
Most of the Van Buren stuff made it into New Vegas's story.
The reason i dont like any of the games that bethesda does is because of multiple reasons-

1) They are way too easy. I can tromp guys in fallout 3 when i did play it at lvl 8, stomping on deathclaws just as easy as i stomped on people in oblivion. The games are easy and not just that, the stats almost mean nothing. Just as a test, i picked the worst perks when i played f3, and i still could beat anything.

2) The other big reason is that 1st person/3rd person view is only good for shooters. I hate to say it but you get much more versatility with top down view like bg/iwd. Even though im not the biggest fan of fallout 1 and 2 (as compared to tactics), i can handle the games due to the view. I dont know how some people can play those games like gothic and arx fatalis. The storylines are great dont get me wrong, but the view is annoying as shit.

3) The controls. I cant get into any 1st person/3rd person action game as the controls are annoying and extremely difficult to master. The only reason i played fallout 3 was because it was on xbox 360. With the top down view, even games like jagged alliance (that have a bit of a learning curve), are more easily accessible. Games like any of the gothic series, get a big 0/10 due to the controls. Even arx was easier to use than the gothic series.

What difficulty were you playing on? I seem to remember Very Hard mode being irritatingly stubborn, requiring a ridiculous amount of ammo to put down stronger enemies like Super Mutant Overlords.

These are very much Your Mileage May Vary issues. I find FPS games usually have more ambiance than plot, and control well for their intended purposes. (Some, of course, are better made than others.)
Portal, for example, is all about the ambiance. It is better that it is First Person so that anything we meet around the corner surprises us just as it would our characters.

Anyway, you get the idea.
I did find the tech demo for Van Buren, but I never could get it to work...ever.
