I have just downloaded and "installed" the latest version of Fallout Fixt, the big mod that encompasses most of the most popular mods to Fallout 1. However, I'm really confused because, when you install it, the created folder is almost as large as the game itself, complete with an executable file. However, if you try to run this executable file, it says "Could not find the master datafile. Please make sure the FALLOUT CD in in the drive and that you are running FALLOUT from the direcroty you installed it to". So, maybe I should have installed Fixt inside the same folder as the original game? The Readme says zilch about it, it simply tells me to "run FIXT from the start menu", but this is precisely what gets me the "Could not find the master datafile" error message. :-(((

The Fallout Fixt installer tells you to install the game into your Fallout folder.

Fallout Fixt comes with most of what you need to run it, but it doesn't come with critter.dat & master.dat- these two files must be copied or moved to your Fallout Fixt folder.

Then you have to edit your fallout.cfg in your Fallout Fixt folder to tell the game where to find them. If you installed Fallout Fixt into your Fallout folder the cfg file should point to the correct location by default.

Also keep in mind that a newer testing version of Fixt has been released- you can find it at:

Hope this helps.
Yes, it has! Actually, some time after I posted my stupid question, I saw that the installer states that it must be installed on top of the original game folder. It only said it once and I missed it, so I was like, "this thing does not explain how to dooooo iiiit", but it was just a dumb mistake from my part.

Thanks from taking your time to answer such a silly question!!

Technically, you install Fallout Fixt! anywhere as long as you copy the files and alter the configuration file. I think Fixt is also missing a few of the music files, which would have to be copied over as well as altering the configuration file.

Thanks for this topic. It helped me a lot.
It's not a silly question since the neither the download page nor the zip file document where the mod should be installed.
