FO3 got a new patch on Steam. It basically removes the GWLF thingy. Does anyone know if it does something that GOG's version doesn't already do?
No idea, but, incidentally, I decided to check if I could use my retail copy's cd key to redeem a digital version of the game somewhere, but I couldn't. :(

I tried steam, gog, windows store, and even bethesda.net. Oh, well!
New patch breaks all mods changes the core exe visual basic hooks if it comes here we can't use mods anymore.

Pray God it doesn't and back up all your mods! And archive your game installer.
GOG version does not have GFWL. If you have the game from GOG you don't need to do anything and your old mods should continue to work.

Can't you just uncheck keep game updated?

I just did that - the backup thing - as soon as I read the news. Both F3 _and_ F-NV, just in case.

Good luck trying to gather the modders who worked in the game between the release of 3 and NV

NV also has a patch, same thing new visual basic hooks and version used breaking script extender.

And it doesn't affect us but the new Skyrim thats auto upgrading all the legendary editions also has the same Visual Basic update.... and its truly FOR NO REASON AT ALL, they dont need the upgrade :(
Download your backup installers just in case.
I wonder if the new patch affects the GOG version?

Shouldn't. It would be an unnecessary update.

The update removes Windows Live function. GOG version does not have the GFWL:

It also changed the exe and introduced other fixes. So I wouldn't be so sure. Apparently the 4gb patch is still unapplied as it is here.
In case there's anyone who's modding for the first time - or modding Fallout 3 for the first time - this mod is a must-have. It fixes a lot of problems with launching FO3 for the first time.

Also, don't forget to set the resolution in the 'Options' menu in the FO3 launcher...then promptly send a copy of 'Fallout3.exe' to the desktop and use that instead! No error messages! No headaches!
