So, I've hacked the computer, used the radio, attempted explosives and used a high repair skill. None of the force fields in Mariposa turn off. What do? I have a save a little before hand. Did mariposa just bug out in me?

If I remember correctly (it's been years..) the force fields don't turn off completely. They just change color and you can pass through them. Other than that, you tried all one can try; radio, explosives, repairing..

OK, here's the solution:

"The first order of business is to learn to turn the shields on and off. The northeastern most computer on the east side nestled in a group of several computers is the one you'll want to head toward. You can walk through Red force fields while taking some damage each time, but you must disable the yellow fields. Make your way to the computer that's not called a Mach IV, and you'll have a couple options. You may continue to use it over and over until you hack into it. This is because you play Blackjack with it and are somehow able to get in via a backdoor. Optionally, you can use your science on it until it says that they are disabled, though I did not notice any difference. Finally, you may use your radio on it to jury rig a remote control to turn the yellow force fields on and off. Afterward, put your radio in an active slot and simply use it to toggle them."

It's been a long time, but I remember using a tool/lockpick/electronic lockpick on the weird thing next to the shield to get by them, but sometimes I had to try a couple of times:

Exactly, it is as if the computer rolls a dice and by the result of it, it decides if you can hack/ repair it or not. So, keep trying, you'll eventually succeed unless your skill is way too low.

Not to be a doofus, but did you use the radio on the computer after you hacked it? Also using a repair tool on the forcefield emitters works better than just using the repair skill. make sure you're using your skills and bombs on the emitter and not the field itself.

The OTHER, other option is to not trip the alarm at all. Easiest way is to wear Children of the Cathedral robes and pass a couple speech checks i think.

Good Luck!! Those Force Fields were the worst part of my first playthrough.
Yeah, I've attempted all of this and the force fields stay up. :( I have a high speech and some robes. I'll load up an older save and actually play my character as intended, lol.

Crap, sorry about that. That's really strange though.

Good thing is, as always with Fallout, there is another way through!
Personally ; I couldn't do any usefull hack with the computer. Everything I asked had no effects (killing large pests for exemple/the robots didn't even move).

But even so, I had no problems with forcefields in Mariposa. I could walk through the orange one only sustaining a minor hp hit. It is of course a nuisance but if you go with stealth all along it's highly manageable and there was only orange force-fields between me and the main thing I wanted to do here. Which should be quite similar to what you are here to do.

Put your purple robe and dance the blues. Mariposa blues.
Yeah I managed to load the older save. I snuck in, bombed the computer and got out with as few fights as possible. Went and buried my super sledge in the Master afterwards. Thanks all!
