Posted this in the f.a.q. section yesterday but I don't think anyone checks there.

Hi, I have an odd problem. I installed everything that was listed in the ultimate mod pack. Unfortunately now I have a bunch of horizontal black and green lines that block my view. If I move my the pointer over them the area is erased but they come right back whenever I switch to a different screen etc. I tried to take a screenshot but it comes out all messed up and your unable to tell whats what.

Windows XP SP3
Pentium IV 3.0Ghz w/hyperthreading
2 Gigs 400mhz ram
Nvidia Geforce 512mb 9400gt PCI (not express, using oldschool PCI)

I tried just installing the widescreen mod and everything was great but the mouse pointer lagged extremely bad. So I removed the ddraw file and the lag stopped but the horizontal lines were back. I am unable to play this at its native resolution because my monitor goes black and says mode unsupported.

:( It appears I am unable to play this game. Anyone have a solution?

A few sugestions make sure you don't have Antialiasing or anything like that forced on your graphics card from your nvidia control panel.

Second, with the widescreen mod did you set the colours to 16bit in the ingame menu?

Have you also tried out a few different resolutions to see if any work?
Nvidia control panel is set to "let 3d application decide".

I've tried different resolutions that my monitor supports to no avail.

I just tried switching to 16 bit like you suggested but now the black and green horizontal lines flash in different places of the screen randomly. Kind of like an odd sparkle style of flashing.

I also tried changing my desktop color depth as well from 32, 16, to 8 bit with no difference. :(

My monitor is hooked up from the graphics card using a DVI to HDMI cable I don't know if this makes a difference or not. Here's a link for the wide screen mod I'm attempting to use.

I don't think the DVI to HDMI cable will affect it as long as its not loose on either end, but you would notice it on everything not just one game.

Do you still have all the mods from the mod guide installed as well as the widescreen mod or did you reinstall the game and only install the widescreen mod?

I did a fresh reinstall with only the wide screen mod. I'll try reinstalling everything again from scratch.

I was more thinking a mod might have been causing the problem, if all you have is the game and the widescreen mod and you still have the problem, installing the extra mods probably won't help.
You were right there was no change after installing the mods. Eduke32 worked out, Planescape Torment works but with a mouse trail, Beneath a steel sky even works but its windowed. Was really hoping this game would work as well. Thanks for trying.

I'll have a think on whats wrong with this game but alt-enter should bring beneath a steel sky to fullscreen.
Unsure if this helps or not but I took a picture of my monitor that way you can get a better idea of what it looks like. The image is dark with a red coloration since I had to put my hand over the flash due to it glaring over the screen. This is what it looks like in 8 bit. I can't make a video so I'm unable to capture the flashing/sparkle effect when in 16 bit. I'm playing on a Samsung LN32B530 Television.

I'm fairly sure thats got to be something to do with the graphics card. Have you got the most upto date drivers?
Yeah, maybe I should try switching to older drivers do you think that would make a difference?

It couldn't hurt. Try 190.XX just incase.
I tried 190.62 everything is still messed up. :(

I hope your right and its just the graphics card. I'll be getting a new PC sometime next year with a GTX 460, so maybe I'll be able to play the game then. Sucks I have to wait so long to see if that's the problem. I can't give you a best solution for the problem but I gave you a plus rep yesterday for trying to help. :)

I did not even know they were still making PCI cards - my guess would be that it will run perfectly with gtx460.
