Currently playing FO1, haven't played any of the others. I have a party of 4 right now, and I notice they tend to get in my way sometimes. Like I'll be trying to go from one room to the next, and they just stand there blocking me.
Any way around this? Is it the same in FO2, or did they fix it?
Thank you.
There's no way around it except to wait for them to move or kill them. Very annoying.
Fortunately, they did fix this problem in FO2. Fallout 2 includes a command (just like "Look" or "Pick Up") that you can use on people to get them to shove off. Oddly enough, you can use it on your allies in combat to make them move a few hexes even when it's not their turn.
As deep as FO1 is, I'm really surprised no one on their development team realized it was a problem.
In FO2, does the "Shove" command require APs during combat?
It does seem like a grevious oversight, doesn't it? I'd be amazed if it never came up during playtesting.
The shove command doesn't consume AP. However, you should be warned that whenever you use the command, the person you clicked on will only move directly away from you, and you cannot use the command once the person is a certain number of hexes away (4-5, I think).
Oh, that never gets old.
That's about the most annoying thing in Fallout 1. Everytime i play F2 i wonder why didn't they do that with the first one.
Seriously, my only advice for you is: save often. Really often. In different slots, so that in case if Ian or Tycho decides to block you and you don't feel like killing them, you didn't have to replay few hours. Waiting is always an idea, but somtimes the NPC's are stubborn and don't want to move even one hex for a few days (a bit odd if you ask me). Considering the time limit and all it's not really an option.
I just found that if the NPC's are in a doorway, if I back up further into the room I'm already in, they follow me & leave the hex so I can run out before they move back into it.
But there was one occasion where I was in a room somewhere & I had managed to back myself into one hex, with no other direction to go but right where the NPC was standing directly next to me...the other hexes all either had walls or furniture.
Or you could just play as a loner. I've played though Fallout multiple times and never found the need to have any companion beyond Dogmeat.
Granted, it's avoiding the problem altogether...

Sadly, no. It''s rare, but you can be trapped in narrow hallways or rooms by perfectly normal NPCs.
If you want a REAL solution, I suggest killing absolutely everyone, except for the people of Vault 13. Attacking the V13 folks automatically results in a game-over. But everyone else is fair game.
They're not people, they're walking XP and item packets.

Weird, I never got stuck by NPCs in the game. Maybe I'm just really lucky.
yeah thats ture and it really becomes a problem once you get the turbo plasma riffle its kindahard for dogmeat to attack the baddies if hes a pile of green goo
