Successfully installed Fallout on Windows XP running in VirtualBox on Mac OS X.
However Fallout fails to load - prompted with
"error initializing video mode 640*480"
Thoughts?
I've played around windows etc - now way to get this display setting?

it's a fairly common error, try renaming falloutw.exe and deleting ddraw.dll, if those don't work try installing the resolution patch which can be found here. and changing the video mode to a resolution that works by editing the ddraw.ini

Wonderful - Thanks! Works perfect
Simply Renamed Application to > Fallout_Applicattion.exe
Renamed ddraw.dll to ddraw.dll.bkk (Assume delete would work as well).

i know its solved, but I think this could be usefull for some people.
I have been trying resolution patch for F1 and F2 lately, and renaming is problem for older versions, last one (version 13 i think ) runs w/o renaming, just make sure that you have requested C++ libraries.

I was able install fallout 1 okay. I try run FO1, but then I would get the "error initializing video mode 640*480" I changed ddraw.dll to ddraw.dll.bkk and the intro movie plays, but the game doesn't start. I have included a picture of the "start screen." I am trying to play this game on on virtualbox with windows XP
