I already own Fallout 3 on both Steam and GoG. I had it on Steam first and then bought it on GoG because of all the improvements that came with it (removed GFWL, among others). I am now contemplating doing the same with NV, but I am not sure if GoG has done anything to address all the stutter/stability issues NV had. Does anybody have any experience that could help out?

Even with mods that apparently fix the crashes and the stutter, the game remains very unstable.
Thanks in advance for your help!
I have several hours in Steam's version of Fallout: New Vegas, it is very stable, I haven't had any issues with various machines over the years:

This does not answer my question. It is a fact that many people have issues with the Steam edition, myself included. Your personal experience is not relevant in this thread, unless you're referring to GoG's version.

I just bought NV on GoG, as on Steam (which I also own), the loading screen never ends. I went and bought it here, assuming it'd be a simple fix, right? Nope, it does the same thing. I don't know how to get it to stop on either version.

Sorry to hear that, dude! But thanks a lot for your input on this.

TLDR: I can only speak from personal experience of course, but for me it works.

I watched smn recently playing the vanilla Steam version on twitch and he ran into some bugs I've never seen, like npc-enemy clones spawning with a bugged ai next to the originals. But by itself the game didn't crash and I can't remember if he got the loading screen loop.

I got the DVD back in the day myself and lost it due to a frequently moving, along with other stuff, and had to play from my backup, which actually worked fine after patching, even with mods.

The GOG-version I got last year works, if anything, a little better. The 4GB patch is included and I had no trouble running it with about 80 mods on Windows 7, 64bits. Was just browsing here cause I got Fallout Tactics last week and was curious to see some posts. Btw: I've seen other people mention that they got rid of the infinite loading loop on Windows 10 when whitelisting/turning off their AV-software.

As always your mileage may vary with Gamebryo. Anyhow, it might help if you relay some info about your OS/mods so people using a similar setup can provide better feedback.

Good luck, have fun.

On Steam, I usually ran with only the essentials (NMV Texture Pack, EVE and all the crash/stutter fixes you can possibly find)

Currently I am on Win10, the infinite loading never was a big issue for me, rather the most random crashes or hardlocks, but it is good to know that it seems better on GoG. Since I prefer DRM-free and it is on sale now anyway, I might just snag it and see how it works!

FONV is on sale again. Do you mind commenting on your experience? I own the Steam version Ultimate and am willing to re-purchase for a superior version on GoG

It is not much "superior". The game tend to crash a lot. It still needs to install NVAC mod. At least for me. It is little better than Steam because of 4GB patch.
Well, FNV uses the crappy Gamebryo Engine, so it shouldn't matter from which store you buy it.

I have the Steam Version installed with pretty much every necessary Stability Tweaks and it didn't crashed once.

I haven't played in a while, but I remember that it didn't change much.
Fallout NV from GOG - might be identical to steam, but I only have the GOG version. I'll be honest and say this is my least favorite Fallout game because it seems so buggy. I have the current GOG version 1.4.0.525 (12010), which I think needs patching to make it playable in Windows 7 (x64). There might be modifications to fix the game I have not tried... However, I stopped playing because there are many places on the maps and points during various quests where the game is certain to crash every time. I spent more time trying to tweak the game to get it running than actually playing it. The Fallout 3 game (and the much different Fallout 4), however, almost never crashes on my PC when I play. I don't have the steam version of either game, fortunately.

You should install some mods like :

If you never managed to play FO3, and you have a Windows 10 system, you might like to read this recent solution. (The antivirus application is preventing the game from instantiating the files it needs to begin the game.)

Firstly, they aren't identical because GOG's version comes LAA (large-address aware, aka 4GB patched) whereas last time I checked Steam's needs patching. But anyways... I have win7 x64 and both games (on a late core2duo PC, with a gt1030 card), and initially I had the same experience as you, BUT it isn't GOG's fault it's NV which was a rushed sequel and well known to be as glitchy and crash-happy as hell. HOWEVER, after following the YouTube video "Fallout New Vegas | FPS & Stability (definitive guide)" by gamerpoets, my NV is as smooth as silk. That guide was developed by and for the TTW supermod, but the fixes work for regular NV installations too. My only criticism of the vid is it tries to cover too many different ways of doing the fixes and pushes MO2 mod manager too much, but the manual methods are in there too and after re-watching and pausing it a few times I got through it all.
