yourheadquake: Hello to all
3 question for Rysa and the GOG.com Team:
1) Can I run on GOGs Fallout 1 the Italian progect that translate the game in Italian language called "Progetto TIFONE" the file name is "FOita1.0.exe"?
2) I have a copy made years ago of the Fallout1 original game, my original copy was stolen years ago when I was young. I have tryed on that copy with Win XP Professional SP3 on a 22" 16:10 LCD with nVidia 7600GT to run the Fallout1_Resolution_Patch_v1.1 downloaded from the link suggested from Rysa. I still have problems with the black corruption of the image after the game starts in the cave, the screen becomes suddenly black and i can see the level design when the mouse path deleting the black while moving. Than the black suddenly comes again to obscure the monitor. Is there a way to avoid this black problem?
3) If I buy the game again on GOG.com I will have the same "blackening" of the screen after the short introduction video with the old man speaking?
I ll hope to see you answer soon dear Rysa.
If I was not so clear in the text let me know. I am sorry for my english.
Thank yo in advance
yhq

Yes, the project Tifone works.
If you have problem to run the game use "compatibility mode" on win xp.

GOG's been fantastic about this (obviously), and I just wanted to help out others who might be a bit lost. I know I was when I first looked at this list but now I think I've figured it out, I want to share the wealth.

Note: This is only my version of the mods! I'm sure there are tons of other ways I don't know about! If you do know, I'd like to know too!

First off, I believe (I'm not entirely sure) that GOG's Fallout is the UK version. If I recall correctly, the UK version does NOT have children in it, which GOG's version does not unless you apply these mods. I installed what was recommended on the front page, sort of. Both mods that fix and add unreleased content and add graphical stuff. If you want instructions on how to install them, just say.

fallup-1.2.1-EN-RC.rar
fallup13.rar
f1npcmod.rar
noarmor.7z

sfall.7z - First link.
Fallout1 High Resolution Patch (currently linked to 2.2b, updated 10/13/09)

"f1npcmod.rar" and "noarmor.7z" are complements and are located on the same page.

This set fixes alot of bugs prevalent in the vanilla 1.2 version. Most noticeable to me were the changes to quest related bugs like flags triggering oddly and stuff like that. They fixed a quest that kept crashing after I completed it too!

Some other interesting mods I've found include a restoration mod, but I haven't played around with it yet.

Hope you guys found it helpful, and if you have suggestions, please do comment and I'll edit my post to be clearer and stuff. Also, if you've got experience with other mods, I'm sure I and others would like to hear it.

EDIT: Links fixed and updated as of 1/17/10.

If I recall correctly, you have to drop it in the "C:\Program Files\GOG.com\Fallout\" folder. You should say yes to replacing the files inside the "data" folder. That's what applies the mod.
I can't entirely remember, but that mod sounds outdated, however I may be wrong. Play around! That's a fun part of modding.
It's recommended to backup the files, in case you want to uninstall the mods. I just copied the whole Fallout folder into a folder called "Fallout Mod" and just modded that one.
Thanks for the advice, i played around with it and figured it out after a few tries :)

Skreczi: Thx for a tip - sorry for it to take so much time ;-) Fixed :D

It's probably best just to link to the main mod/patch pages as appropriate, as the links change regularly.

Sorry for taking so long, but I fixed the links.
I wanted to begin Fallout 1, but it seems that the sfall patch for Fallout 1 is nowhere to be found. I think that's the sfall 1.18e, and Timeslip has just put the 2.x version on the sourceforge project page since he closed the sfall page on his website.
Someone know where I could find this patch, please ?

I'm currently hosting both the last version of sfall1 and sfall 2.0d (the last version before open sourcing.). You can find them in the end of Fallout 2 MODs topic or visiting my site (links -> infinity engine and scroll near to the end). I'm also hosting mods for various other games and have links to most important mods and modding sites for those game (mostly RPG's).
Thank you ! And your site made me discover some interesting things as well(DaggerXL...). Bookmarked :) !

Yes, it's very interesting project. I've been planning on announcing it here (in general discussion) for while now but the luciusdxl keeps pushing back the 0.14 release (that'll come with all the procedually generated terrain and graphical improvements show in recent blog posts.). Just noticed that he has few days ago released build 9 of his other project, the Hardware Accelerated remake of Dark Forces, "DarkXL" so hopefully he'll have time to finnish the next version of DaggerXL as well.
I'm currently working on monthly update and hopefully get it done today.
I installed the Res patch but when I go to reset after the resolution has changed, the game crashes with an error reading "Failed to Initialize video mode 1600 X 1024"
The Read Me suggests to edit the F1_res.ini file. When i go and do this my computer tells me:
"Cannot create the C:\Prgoram Files\Gog.com\Fallout\f1_res.ini file. Make sure that the path and file name are correct."
Any ideas? Thanks in advance

If you're running Vista/Windows 7 the problem is UAC (User Account Control) that prevents modifying files in Program Files folder. You need administrator privlidges to edit files there.
Permanent and best solution is to never install any old games (all GOG.com games) inside program files folder ("c:\games" or something) or disbling UAC (but by doing this you 'lose' you saved games as UAC makes games that save in the game folder save them in hidden appdata folder and with UAC disabled games will look save games in normal save game folder. You'll need to move them from appdata to where game expects them to be to use them.).
Temporary solution would be running the text editor you're using as administrator by right clicking the application and choosing 'run as administrator'.
Thanks Petrell, that helped.
It seems though that it was the 16bit color all along that was causing the program to crash. All of the 8bit resolutions seem to work fine. Oh well, I'm happy with that. Does 16bit look all that different?
