Hi i am just wondering if i am only one with this problem, but i found GOG version of Fallout to run little slower than "normal" Fallout i have on CD. I dont mind, because difference isnt that big, but when i tried high resolution pack it made game unplayable. CD version worked with high resolution pack without problems, no difference in speed when i changed resolutions. Please, post your experience...

Yea mines running slow as hell with the resolution pack on so i'm just going to uninstall it 'cus i just want to play the game haha.

I found a solution to your problem. The installer sets a win 98/Me compatibility mode on falloutw.exe, which is understandable : on some configurations it's necessary.
Although you can remove it, but not by changing the compatibility on falloutw.exe because it will not save the changes. Copy falloutw.exe in the same directory as falloutw.exe which is located in C:Program FilesGOG.comFallout by default.
Now you can play smoothly with Copy of falloutw.exe !
That's what I just did =)
EDIT: Can't help you about the high resolution, though: It's still laggy for me. Will check stuff later but apparently I can't solve it... Plus it's so tiny I can't see anything :D

nah, i dont think it is something with falloutw.exe, because high resolution patch marked it as exe file associated to 1.2TeamX update, which i also applied to CD version... i guess there is something else "inside" it :)

Well I had no problem with the hi-res pack, don't forget in the Fallout Game Preferences you can set some game speeds, like for mouse, etc
I thought the mouse was smoother with the hi-res, but at 1024x758, let alone 1280x960, I saw it as too small. maybe it's my rose coloured glasses, but I think it looks better at 640x480, so I just went into the F1 ini and changed the res to 640x480, now i play it as nature intended and the proportions all seem right! :)
Oh - and thanks GOG for fixing the game, as my original had some graphic glitches in XP I couldn't get rid of, and you got rid of them!

I just downloaded this game and I had the same problem as everyone else, the game was way too slow. I managed to fix it by turning off all the graphics settings for fallout in the nvidia panel. I'm talking about things like anisotropic filtering, vertical sync, triple buffering and so on. I put everything on off or application controlled (I had to create a profile specifically for fallout since it's too old but you can also change the global settings which will affect all your games). Now it runs fine with the high resolution patch in 1280 x 1024, no more slow downs.

I don't know why PC gamers just have to have all games running at the highest resolution possible with everything switched on! For me, even 1024x768 make the character too small and just wouldn't do justice to the graphics you will see, because everything will be too small! This game was designed to be played at 640x480, it looks best at 640x480 and the blood and gore, etc is easier to see at 640x480.
In other words, just play it at 640x480! :)

Lower resolutions can be bad for anyone's eyes on newer, larger monitors. Nothing wrong with someone wanting to utilize the technology that they own. Your preference is different than someone else's but this doesn't nullify the want for a high resolution mod & fixing the issues that come with it.

i finished Fallout 1 5 times in native resolution, and when i found out about this mod i just want to try it out :) nothing special ;)

Anyway, to me, at higher resolutions, it doesn't look better, it just looks smaller! :)

The problem with running at higher resolutions in fallout is it doesn't make a sharper picture only makes the objects/screen smaller and impossible to play at resolutions I use such as 1920x1200.
1024x768 is the best compromise in my opinion. Runs great and looks better than 640x480, granted it looked decent then too, but 1024x768 the text is a lot easier to read.
