It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

LazyAndroid: From what I read in the forums, it not only updated them to the HD versions, but it also made them multilanguage. As in you can download the german version or the spanish version for example. If you know how to patch stuff on your pc and english is your first language or you are profficient enough in it then I would say it is not worth upgrading to the Bethesda version.

MetisRebel: The new ones are HD? Cuz I hate tweaking and modding and stuff if I can get them already widescreen "outta the box"--I'd prefer that.
Yes, but you'd still need to use the bugfixes only version of Fallout Fixt/Unofficial Fallout 2 patch to get bugfixes. The mods used mostly extend to getting them able to run in widescreen in all languages. It is only for Tactics where you really wouldn't have to add in anything, though you lose the added mission of classic (apparently, I wonder if the installer for that works on the new release?)

EDIT: Also to the person who mentioned arena and daggerfall: they're the CD versions whereas the free versions already out are floppy disc. So at least you do get something different from it.

I would be interested to know who owns the IP/Copyright for the Mods. I doubt it is Bathesda so aint this a Copyright Violation if they include the mods and resell it?

Sfall (which is used in the installation for 2) is open source, and that's all I know.

Bethesda has done this before with mods. I'm not sure if this is WeGo Interactive all over again or not however, the creators might have been contacted beforehand.

lm3: I think the new versions serve as way to sell the same games again to those who want Arena or Daggerfall. No, I won't buy them again. I'm disappointed again with GOG.
avatar
dtgreene: If you want Arena and Daggerfall, why not just buy a different Bethesda game, one you don't already have?
Both games are freeware. You can download them at http://www.elderscrolls.com
Back on the topic of Fallout:

If you have the classic versions, you have all the extras. From the link Thiev showed it looks like those extras are not yet implemented into the re-release. THIS IS THE ONLY DIFFERENCE!

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Arena and Daggerfall are freeware on Elder Scroll site since many years.

Tactics extra have a pdf file of a rule book with printable "checkers" (I don't sure if the word is right!) of a "pen & papers" version of Fallout.

you also have the official wineskin port (not updated) for osx.
Well I just checked Fallout/Fallout 2/Tactics, and they are definitely different than the GOG versions. They have a new little splash screen when you run the shortcut, plus they have the HD resolution patches integrated. I have no idea why people are saying they're the same because they aren't.

I don't particularly mind, it saves me having to apply the res patches myself, but I'd like to know what else has been changed, so I know what mods to apply and what ones not to.

because gog say that... and we (that have the old version) don't buy again this version...
also they say that they updated the old version too.

Sounds like the update they gave the Steam versions.
Just downloaded the new version installer for Fallout 2. I noticed that it is a larger installer. The old one was something like 550MB, the new one is 721MB.

Oddly, when you run the new installer it says the game needs 566MB hard drive space to install. Why is the installer bigger than the installed game size then? Or is it a typo left over from the old installer and the new one does need more space due to the addition of the HD resolution patch?

typo.
So does that mean that the installers for classic versions have now been Bethesdafied? If so, then how recent installers should one posses to have all the relevant fixes without any mention to Bethesda/Zenimax in splash screens or credits?

JAAHAS: have all the relevant fixes without any mention to Bethesda/Zenimax in splash screens or credits?
If I'm not mistaken the changes to the Fallout installers aren't of that nature.

I have only had the time to look at Fallout 1 and from what I can see the following changes were made:

- The "semi-official" patch 1.2 has been applied.
- A wide-screen patch has been applied. -The patch can be customized and probably even removed.

If you want to have the most up-to-date version of the game you may want to download the unofficial patch 1.3.x.
Edit: And since GOG's installers are still UK versions you may want to apply the Children-patch first.

(Note that I have just purchased the game for the first time. So, I can't promise that I'm correct)

Edit 2: I think the following post is also relevant:

The OSX ports aren't Wineskin. This and Descent Freespace use a slightly different method by running them in X11. It also makes them way harder to mod, so making your own Wineskin wrapper so you can run patch EXEs might be a smart idea.

One would wonder why Freespace hasn't been updated yet, but we have FSOpen anyway so it isn't an issue.
