At some point, I picked up some of the older Fallout games on GOG. This includes "Fallout Classic". Today, I wanted to link a friend to the store page for that game, but it seems to no longer exist on GOG, though it does exist in my Library and is installed on my computer. However, I now see just "Fallout" (for $9.99) when I search.

Was "Fallout Classic" removed? If so, why? Also, is there any difference between Fallout and Fallout Classic?

"Fallout Classic" was the Interplay "version" of the game, while "Fallout" is the current Bethesda version of the game. The classic version is removed from the store because Interplay doesn't own the rights anymore, but if you have bought the Interplay version, then yes you still have it in your account.

I only have the "Classic" Interplay-versions bought from GOG (not rebuying the Bethesda version), but to me it appears the Classic includes also the Bethesda version. You get two links in your start menu when you install the old Interplay version, "Classic" and non-classic, and the non-classic appears to be the Bethesda version.

Meaning, if you have bought the Interplay version of the game before, there is absolutely no reason to rebuy the Bethesda version, as you already have the Bethesda version as well within the same "Classic" installer. The only little advantage for rebuying the Bethesda version would be that then also the non-Classic versions would be marked as "owned" in the store so you don't accidentally buy them, but then you have already bought them so... now I am confused.

I am unsure what exact differences there are gameplay-vise with the Bethesda and Interplay versions. I seem to recall reading that none, the only difference is that the Bethesda version will run a different kind of launcher when you run the game.

It's like that every time a game is removed from gog.
Due to legal reasons, the gog staff is some times forced to remove a game (and in some cases even an entire franchise) from their store.
BUT the removal affects only people that didn't purchase said game/franchise before gog was forced to remove it (btw if you can't find a specific game in the store, that you think you've seen before, search for the game subforum. If the game's forum exists but you can't access the page to buy it, the game was probably removed. Some times gog warns us about the removal of a game before it happens, like this thread in the Chronicles of Riddick subforum, created by fables22).
The game is not removed from your user's library, ever, just from the catalog.
The only time I heard people losing something from their library was due to a strange bug, but it happened years ago I doubt it still happens (but not a bad idea to keep your purchase confirmed emails and some screenshots of your games).

Actually, there is technically one advantage to re-buying the Bethesda versions: Doing so will get you Arena and Daggerfall added to your account. Then again, if you want those games on your GOG account, you might as well buy a game that you *don't* already have (I believe Battlespire and Redguard are the same price as the early Fallout games); that way, you get Arena, Daggerfall, *and* the game you actually purchased rather than just Arena and Daggerfall.

So yes, there is one advantage to re-buying the Bethesda versions, but still no point in doing so.

Wait, what? I've searched GOG for Arena and Daggerfall before, but I've never seen it. It's possible to get them on GOG?

Yes, you just need to buy one Bethesda title from GOG. Doesn't matter which Bethesda title it is, but buying one will give you Arena and Daggerfall as bonuses.

Note that these two games are legally available for free from Bethesda's website, though note that the version of Arena from Bethesda's website is the floppy version (no voice acting), while the one from GOG is the CD-ROM version (voice acting in cutscenes).

Ah, cool! The Bethesda games are Windows only, though the "Classic" versions of the old Fallout games are Windows and Mac, running is a DOS wrapper. Do you know if Arena and Daggerfall will play on macOS?

Both of these games are DOS only so all it takes is a DOSBox to set em up, there is no GOG installer for MacOS version. However you can unpack the Windows ones using Innoextract.

If you plan to play any of these games on DOSBox, also use the DOS/32A. All you have to do is just run it with Arena/Daggerfall's EXE file as a one command.

dos32a.exe <executable file for Arena/Daggerfall>

With that extender, it will fix most of the crashes and save corruption issues.
