Hey all! Please visit this thread for more up-to-date information: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/fallout_4_nextgen_update_is_coming_but_will_likely_be_slightly_delayed.

Right now, I can't unfortunately give you anything concrete.

The update proved to be more difficult than expected but we're determined to make it happen. We're actively working with Bethesda to bring it here. No ETA to give you though :/

Astaldo711: I hate when people do that! Apologies!
I appreciate your consideration, thanks!

Memecchi: Most of them? while modders keep the pre-next gen build available for now, that's not getting any fixes

Also don't assume everyone is interested in Fallout London, a lot of people just want to mod the base game with the latest update, and that's perfectly valid
Well said!

The only reason they are being updated is to make them work again, because the update broke them.

Name something that actually adds any new functionality, or even a new fix that the old version doesn't also get, other that just fixing what the update broke.

What you are talking about is just FUD right now. There is nothing you are missing by using the previous version.
There is no FUD to be had if both gen versions become available. Assuming GOG would do that, why dismiss others when it wouldn't affect you? Just because Next Gen is as broken as it is now, doesn't mean it will continue to remain that way either with further patch updates from Bethesda and the modding community.

I can appreciate your enthusiasm for Fallout London and there is no reason to discredit that. It's an absolutely valid reason to keep using the pre Next Gen. And you may become interested in the Fallout Vault 13 total conversion mod when it becomes stable since it also uses that as a base.

As far I can I see, Bethesda really screwed up the execution of this update because it fragmented the FO4 community. Because of this added complexity, the availability of both versions becomes seemly necessary.

No, the next-gen builds are the ones getting fixes/new functionalities/whatever (I have already mentioned the unofficial patch) while the pre next-gen will eventually be rendered obsolete

That's just how the modding community works, they're not gonna branch off in two, any future work will be done with the next gen update, as broken as it was/is

I totally agree on that. All they really added was some mediocre content, not functionality so there was no real reason to break compatibility over this version.

Fallout 4 is nearly 10 years old. There are unlikely to be major bug fixes going forward.

Also because people drop out of the community, many mods will NEVER be updated for the new Bethesda version.

This new version was a disaster, but it's hard to be surprised with Bethesda messing things up.

It will be worth complaining about the missing version, when there is real significant content that needs it.

That isn't right now. Eventually we will get the new version and eventually there will content for it.

Yeah. At times I wish the source code would be available, so one could make a compatible fork for the update. The only non-updated mods that still work would be API-compatible with the update out of pure luck.

You know New Vegas is 14 years old and that's still getting bug and engine fixes/tweaks... right? also there's no new Fallout on the horizon, F4 will still be the main focus of the modding community for a good while, with the next-gen update as the fundation

Just drop it already, really, people have the right to ask for the update

And people have the right to say there is no hurry.

The update has been patched once, and is still a broken mess:

https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fallout/the-first-patch-for-bethesdas-busted-fallout-4-next-gen-update-leaves-its-biggest-problems-intact-and-youre-still-better-off-downgrading-the-game/

I finished my 100+ hour play of FO:London which is the biggest thing to happen to FO4 since Far Harbor DLC.

Now back on my Modded FO4 install, and looking at my mods, no way I would add the patch. The VAST majority of my Mods haven't been updated in years.

This update was a disaster. It does nothing but mess things up and divide the community.

That's a weird right to have lol, updates should always come as soon as possible, while keeping an old version just in case

I see. You think, only people who agree with you should be allowed to speak their opinion.

That isn't how the world works.
If you are so adamant on staying on an older version then just backup the installer or use the rollback feature. There is zero reason GOG should permanently stay on an older version.

No? there's simply no downside to having the next gen update already available, can't you really get that around your head? you're advocating to delay the next gen version, saying "there's no hurry" after 4 MONTHS because you're not interested and would rather stay in the pre-next gen, but what about the people that bought the game thinking they would get the update in a timely manner?

Again, you made your point about how good Fallout London is, this isn't about that
While I agree what sucks about the next-gen is the API compatibility breakage especially with F4SE mods, it shouldn't deter GOG from publishing it either as long as the pre next-gen is kept available (as I've made the point several times).

While we all have the right to speak our minds, there is a difference with having stronger arguments.

Neck_Bear: There is zero reason GOG should permanently stay on an older version.
I never said it should be permanent.

I just said there is no hurry because there still isn't anything useful that needs the newer version, while there are many things that still require the old version.

Clear enough. People ranting over this, are ranting over nothing, because at this point, the new version doesn't actually bring a tangible benefit.

Eventually it will be what everything runs on, and eventually it will be here.
GOG Galaxy lets you roll back to previous versions of a game. If you or someone else is so inclined they can revert the version for mods and/or other reasons. GOG updating to the last versions has no downsides.
