cryhwks: I have windows 10. When I launch the game initially I get a message that says

"This app can't run because it causes security or performance issues on Windows. A new version may be available. Check with your software provider for an updated version that runs on this version of Windows."

I've clicked the "Get help" Button. It tries to download Games For Windows Marketplace. Even though I already have a one. And every time that launches from the Get Help button it errors out.

I've tried going into my firewall settings to try and add FO3 to my firewall exceptions list. But it's never listed among the games you can choose. I see FNV there but never 3.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled many times. Nothing works.

And I've tried the "Solved" solution to, and nothing. What happens is I can get into Launcher. I click "Play New Game." It launches for about a second and you can see the load screen. Then it crashes.

wdluense3: Did you have the old Steam version installed and if you did, did you uninstall it and remove all its remnants including GFWL?

Also, what type of graphics card/APU are you using?

cryhwks: Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630.

And I had it on Steam first. But i uninstalled it when I returned the game. I don't know what GFWL is? Or where to see if it's still therre?

I'm not computer smart. That's why I was happy to hear this game worked right outside the box.

wdluense3: No worries. GFWL is "Games for Windows LIVE", which was required to play FO3 with Steam. It is not needed anymore for the GOG version but it is still best to find and remove it just in case it may cause issues. Using old files from the Steam version seems to cause a lot of issues for people.

You may have already but you should look for any installed folders/files related to FO3 in your Documents > My Games folder and where you installed the game, then delete them. Install the GOG version and start the game from FalloutLauncher.exe so you can customize Options which will create a new Fallout3 folder inside Documents > My Games that will have FALLOUT.INI and FalloutPrefs.ini inside. Make sure your Resolution is correct because I had an issue where I had to manually add mine otherwise the game kept crashing after I hit PLAY.

cryhwks: How do you know what resolution it is supposed to be?

wdluense3: Start > Settings > Display will show you what your screen resolution is set to.

cryhwks: I did this and still no good. I click new game. And it loads for about a second and closes. It seems like it's working smoothly and starts loading, and then it's like someone X's out of it.

Thanks for the help, but I'm probably just going to ask for a refund. The entire reason I got this on GoG is so I wouldn't have to do all this troubleshooting like with the Steam version. I just don't have the know how or the patience to solve the problem.

wdluense3: Sorry for such a late reply. Did you get the game refunded? If not, I am still willing to help you get it working. The only other thing I can think of is your onboard graphics are the issue and even that has a possible work around.

wdluense3: Do you have anything related to FO3 in your Documents > My Games folder? If you have a Fallout3 folder in My Games you should either back it up and/or delete it. Once it is deleted I need you to start FO3 from FalloutLauncher.exe, then go to Options and set everything to what you want. Make sure that your Resolution is listed and set to the correct one. Once you have the graphics set to what you would like, hit OK and then hit PLAY. If you have any more problems let me know.

sarahcat1: Another thing that I sorta stumbled upon: if you do the following, you should be able to play it via GOG Galaxy instead of having to go to the Program Files (x86) folder:

1. Go to your Fallout 3 page in your GOG Galaxy 2.0 library (not sure how it is in GOG Galaxy 1.0, so just wanted to be clear).

2. Click on the Configure icon—the one with two dots, each connected to a horizontal line.

3. Go to Manage Installation > Configure, and checkmark "Custom executables / arguments" and make a new argument.

4. Under File 4, select C:/.../Fallout3.exe.

5. Click on "Default executable".

Now GOG Galaxy should open up Fallout3.exe instead of FalloutLauncher.exe when you click "Play".

Not sure if this will help anyone; all I know is that it made it work for me, in addition to the solutions stated before this comment.
